Bullpot Farm 🫶
An iconic caving hut for northern caving clubs. Bullpot farm is often the first glimpse into a YUCPC weekend away, as the convenience of the Easegill system makes it a perfect place for our fresher’s weekends. It has a special place in everyone’s hearts.

Are you a university caving club wanting more practice with SRT above-ground? YUCPC is grateful to have such an excellent training hall to teach our freshers basic and advanced SRT skills. We have encouraged other university clubs to use our ropes and trainers on individual evening sessions, but we understand this is difficult for clubs who are further away. That is why we will be hosting a TRAINING WEEKEND for university caving clubs! On the 9th and 10th of May we will open our training hall and our members and trainers will be readily available to assist in SRT training!
The sports hall has a large range of free-hanging ropes to practice most skills you could ever need for UK caving. It’s not just your basic rebelays and change-overs. There are things for complete freshers, intermediates, and seasoned cavers. This is an opportunity for freshers to learn general SRT skills. However, don’t feel like this is just for them, we want people of all levels to benefit from the weekend.

Stop and smell the… stalactites?
As cavers, we often get asked by our family, friends, and everyone on the internet ‘Why would you ever willingly go in a cave?’ Our answer: PRETTIES! These formations are the product of years upon years upon years of calcite build up. It’s a spectacular sight to see the work of the Earth, and only a very small percent of the population ventures underground to see them! ✨
Recently, more of our members have obtained cameras to take on trips. These photos were all captured in South Wales on our week away.

Our week in South Wales has finished but we’re all still missing it! This trip was monumental to members of our club. Freshers began navigating through Ogof Ffynnon Ddu, some camped underground for the first time, and above all, we wandered through the depths of South Wales and took many photos! Having over 300 photos to choose from, I’ve selected some that show how varied our trips were, especially in terms of technicality, water levels, and formations!
Our Wales week is a turning point for the club. It is the time when our new committee begin to take over their roles. Everyone has done an excellent job handing over to their successors! Committee introductions will be posted in the coming months!

From Sunday-Monday, four of our members completed a return trip to Hard Rock Cafe in Ogof Daren Cilau in 30 hours!

Thank you everyone who donated to our Challenge Week fundraiser! Thanks to your support we will be able to purchase new safety equipment to take underground, new rope to replace the worn out ones in the training hall, and additional sizes of personal equipment! This money will greatly change the reach of our club, giving us a better chance to safely train and lead members. This week required a huge effort by many members of our committee and additional volunteers. So many people showed up to help with the Mariana Trench challenge and the midnight 5K. Last weekend 10 of our members descended Brewery Shaft, an abandoned mine of legendary status within YUCPC. Not only did they descend 100 metres in a single go, they also prussiked back up it—more than once! As part of Challenge Week, our mining members contributed nearly 3,000 metres toward our Mariana Trench Challenge. This trip to Brewery Shaft was the first of our challenges to be completed to achieve donations for the club.
Trip highlights included: descending the shaft more than expected just for fun, a cheeseboard, descending at midnight after the cheeseboard, viki descending in abbie’s dinosaur pajamas, practicing squeezes, and abbie descending with crockery attached to her.
