The final portrait from my book DJs by Lopez released in 2003 is Liverpool based tech house DJ/Producer - Yousef Playing out globally since the 90’s including residencies in Ibiza Yousef went on to become a prominent producer, event organiser and label owner at Circus. He hosted the 500th edition of Pete Tongs Essential Mix and has released 4 successful albums and released tracks for the likes of Carl Cox, Green Velvet, Sven Vath and Four Tet. Yousef wrote in my book…The Music and djing mean everything to me. The music I love because of the way it makes me feel. Because music inspires; it has a personal relationship with the listener and above all you can always turn to music when you need it and it will never let you down; only lift your spirit and enhance your mood in whatever direction. I love djing because you can control the mood direction for other people. I’ve always been interested in the technical side of djing and always try to push the technical skill level as far as I can take it. I love the idea of having one, two, three or even four tracks rolling to create the vibe, in effect making your own tracks out of other people’s. The vibe is what the dancefloor is hearing, what is coming out of the speakers. It’s about the groove, the tension, the funk and above all the order you put the music in. 11 years into it I feel it more now than I ever have, for me music is a way of life. @yousefcircus Portrait by Chris Lopez 2003 #djphotography #portraitphotographer #djsbylopez #techno #mamiyarb67

Next up… @yousefcircus returns! Following the acclaimed releases of ā€œLoving is Livingā€ and ā€œHigher Placeā€, taken from Yousef’s recent Number 1 album, I Operate in Purple, Yousef’s new project once again joins forces with Kuuda for their third vocal anthem, ā€œLove and Hopeā€. This latest track offers a deeply melodic and even melancholic narrative, exploring the journey through heartbreak and the enduring power of belief. This drops on Friday, previews to come!

It was great to be back in London on Saturday at the superb XOYO. I played pretty much 100% brand new unreleased music, with a sprinkling of my recent music too. The vibe was electric, there are few better feelings as a dj than playing brand new underground music you believe in, and watching a room connect with it, the room going off and the full crowd was reaching out. My full set from Saturday is on soundcloud.com/yousef. It’s colourful, fresh and slams! Link in bio too. Enjoy āœŒšŸ½ā¤ļøšŸ’„ @xoyoldn

Just having a reflective moment about what a year 2025 was… I started the year determined to break my new album ā€œI Operate in Purpleā€ with a self release on Circus, somehow getting it to Beatport overall number 1, with no budget, and ended the year deciding to take on a role as a music artist manager… šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø Since becoming a single father of two, so I don’t miss my parental commitments, I’ve slowly removed myself from weekly touring, opting for occasional international tours and cool fun gigs only and I’ve focused more on the business side the music industry. Our events company Circus / Blackstone is going well, and my Circus record label is steady too, as is Shindig Newcastle, my other rave up i co-own. as I’m not touring loads and am home more, I had space for more projects, which is why I joined Purple Wall Management, to look after Micheal Canitrot. So far after less than two months, I’m loving it, and the PW team are very happy with me (I think!) I’m turning thoughts into things and our collective ambition for Micheal is limitless. Yet, the pull to make music and to create is still unstoppable… I’ve completed a new collaboration to be released with the most legendary name in electronic music production, Master David Morales, which is unbelievable to me really, It’s a beautiful and powerful track & song, I wrote the lyrics. My new release with Kuuda ā€œLove & Hopeā€ is one of my best tracks I’ve ever made too… Not sure what the moral of the story is…. I guess creativity, even doing projects for other people still feels good the gig offers are coming in so I’ll be doing them too. I’m a demon dj, obsessed by playing and locating new and excellent music - that won’t change. I’m a - Dj / Producer / Promoter / Label Owner / Artist Manager and most importantly a Dadā€¦ā¤ļø

In recent years, with the our events company doing well, and especially being a single father of two, I just couldn’t commit to the dj touring life like I used to. I’ll still do 2-3 special gigs a month where I can be free to express myself and I’m still a demon dj but I want to be home with my children. So for now the next chapter of my career has begun. After a 7 years of consideration about going into management, I’m finally taking a roll at Purple Wall, joining Donal, Jay, Camille, Dermot, Louis and the exceptional crew. They look after Kerri Chandler, Vintage Culture, Patrick Topping, Korolova, Sebastian Leger, Claptone and many more. I’ll be delving into the world of the incredibly exciting Micheal Canitrot, famous for his Monumental Events as well as his excellent music and DJing Check the videos in my slides šŸ¤Æā¤ļøšŸ‘šŸ½ I’ll be advising and helping and suggesting ways for him to realise his ambitions, while simultaneously connecting him with his peers, and who knows where this will lead for us and the team. Only yesterday he was decorated as a ā€œKnight of Arts and Letters in Franceā€. This is a massive accomplishment for any musician in France - genuinely amazing. His sound is original cinematic and melodic house and techno, and importantly real songs and singers. He’s the real deal, a proper artist. I’m already in touch with many of his peers and people I think he should or could be connected to I was surprised how excited I am about doing this role, but I guess I’m a connector and a creative so this is both of those things. For anyone wanting to know more, or to collaborate or if you have ideas dm me or contact me if you know me. X @michaelcanitrot @purplewallmusic
