Oh how blessed am I to love and be loved by such a pure soul.
My story with my best friend began when I was 11 years old. I was told by my mom and dad that this year would be the first year I got to pick my present out. What I didn’t know was that present would turn into the greatest gift I’ve ever received.
We went to a family in Hilmar who bred German Shorthairs to pick one from the litter. As we pulled up I saw her from the car window bouncing around with her brothers and sisters in the front lawn. I immediately said “I want the one with the all brown head, she’s like half solid color” and was told well we’re going to meet all of them and see. I sat on the lawn and was immediately rushed by her. I took a heavy puppy tackle to the chest and was immediately bombarded with face kisses. By then the other puppies caught wind and now I had the whole team on my face and chest as I rolled on the floor. We cleared them off and began to check each one out individually, although the brown dog had left, attention caught by something else.
As I played with the other ones I still looked for her, and after about five minutes saw her proudly trotting towards me with a treasure in her mouth to show me. She brought her treasure in front of me and set it at my feet so I could see it’s glory: a piece of cat poop.
I giggled immediately and she bounced into a play stance, happy i was proud of her “gift”. I scooped her up and said I want this one, at least we know she can retrieve. My dad asked well what’s her name and with zero hesitation I said “Daisy.”
We took Daisy home, and introduced her to the other dogs and our cat. However the first night she was home there was a big lightning storm so she was terrified most of the night, it cane for bed time and we out her in her kennel and tried to go to bed. After a singular whine I couldn’t take it, I snuck out and undid her kennel door and put her in bed with me as the little spoon.
Thus began the multi-month long argument, that resulted in me being grounded a lot, of whether or not she was allowed in bed. I would lie every single day and say I understood she can’t be in my bed, I won’t teach her -
