A show! Joining @welcomerwelcomer & @fazedonapony in Tāmaki in June. Stoked to be playing with two songwriters I am excited about at the moment. Also wrote another little blog on the bandcamp. Links to both in bio x
Um that was so fun! Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows earlier this month, playing songs live for the first time is always a bit nerve wracking, so for them to be warmly received from the get go meant a lot 💜💜 Full ngā mihi to @modelhomenz for not only learning and playing the songs with me but also taking so much care in it, i was touched 💜 💜next year…more recordings? more shows? let’s see 💜💜 Cheers Mak @disposablebelief for the photo
Hello James speaking! I’ve got my first shows as Yon Loader over the next few weeks, playing in a special limited edition collaboration with Model Home. First show in Christchurch then a lap around midwest Aotearoa! Bit scary embarking on a new live project but how good to do it with me mates Model Home 💕 hope to see you out there !
Another Year has passed - our album came out just over 1 year ago! And in just over a month some of the songs including Another Year will have their live debut in our split set with @modelhomenz !
I suppose this song revolves around the tendency to hold on to things when it’s time to move on. Something like: trying to recreate a situation or time in your life can be fun but can also root you to a perspective that closes you off to the new and different. This song tries to capture and appreciate precious moments then move beyond them.
To accompany our upcoming tour with @modelhomenz and @yonloader we have created a tour exclusive DOUBLE SIDED tote bag! These are screen printed on AS Colour Carrie tote bags which are heavy weight 320gsm cotton, coming in at $25 a pop.
Pre-order one through our Bandcamp (it’s Bandcamp Friday today!), through the model home Bandcamp, or flick any of us a DM. They can be collected at any of our tour shows or we’ll post out late November.
Shout out to @pbp_screenprinting for their amazing work on these!
Nervous and excited to share that I will be live debuting several Yon Loader tracks in a split set with @modelhomenz this November!! How sweet to share the stage with Model Home who have been my comrades in emo for over a decade now 💕 joined by sweethearts @pining.radiata for the lap around midwest Aotearoa 💕
Hello again! Been a bit quiet on the social media because it’s all been feeling so compromised and difficult to connect through (more re that soon). Something I’ve done recently that i wanted to shared is that I played in the ephemeral Europe version of @welcomerwelcomer for a few dates. A treat to contribute to Miles’ music after he contributed so much to the album. Was a challenge to play in standard tuning again (it had been a few years - not a joke). And wow so fun and easy to just turn up and play guitar! We also played Tied Up In as part of the set 🙂 also featured: vegan haggis and black pudding with Harry, being floored by the hotelier yet again
My other band Carb on Carb just had our last show this month; feels relevant to be writing about Another Month today. Carb on Carb did a lot of tours, relatively short and often. It became one of my favourite feelings to set out on a tour; leave everything behind for a couple weeks. Another Month also bridges themes between Locked and Left Behind and Another Year. Being away from home and routine can really unlock clarity for me in a way I can’t access otherwise. And Victoria’s voice just shines on this one!
Two Good Things is one of the more direct songs on the album, essentially about my propensity to take on too much. It’s a constant battle for me and at times sucks the fun out of things or nudges me towards breaking point. But taking on a lot has also given me a lot; herein lies the problem. Like many of the songs on this album I’m looking for balance. It’s also blatantly referential with the title and a direct lyrical quote - without those artists this album would sound and feel different so it’s nice to give them a nod. Pictured is the lake mentioned in the song - Waikaremoana.
