Historic, but not the end.
Last night, Worcester’s city council voted 9-2 in favor of making our city a sanctuary for trans and gender-diverse people. This victory is a direct result of the tireless work of
@votethu , the event organisers at
@love.your.labels ,
@xladylarougex for rallying for all of us, and every community member who showed up, shared their stories, and refused to be silenced.
Thu Nguyen, the first openly nonbinary city councillor, has faced relentless transphobia while simply doing their job—yet they continue to fight for a Worcester that protects and uplifts all of us. Their dedication, alongside the courage of so many who spoke their truth last night, made this resolution possible.
This is a step forward, but the work isn’t over. A resolution is only as strong as the action that follows. Worcester must continue proving that trans and gender-diverse people are safe, supported, and valued here—not just in words, but in real policies and protections.
Let’s celebrate, but let’s also keep pushing. Stay loud, stay involved, and let’s make sure Worcester lives up to the commitment it just made.
