“Guangcai” also called The Canton Famille Rose Porcelain, an intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong, is known for vivid colors, fine details, and auspicious patterns, showing Lingnan culture and East–West exchange, which tells stories of Hong Kong’s history and world connections.

This is my third Christmas on the island, on Sunday Dec 21st, I’ll be hosting a small workshop around midday where we’ll create Canton porcelain Christmas ornaments.
Off-island friends are also welcome to join us too!
For those who aren’t familiar, Canton porcelain is a Hong Kong intangible cultural heritage craft where artists paint on white porcelain and then fire it again.
Back in the 1980s, Peng Chau was at its peak with as many as eight Canton porcelain factories, and many masters of the craft are still quietly living here today!
You can still find traces of this heritage around the island, including the still-operating Chiu Kee porcelain factory.
For this workshop, I’ve even received permission from Mrs. Lam of Chiu Kee (aka Giu-jea) to use one of their classic deer designs as a line drawing for everyone to play with.
Another design will feature my own comic character, “Lazy Lady.” I’ve even left some blank space so you can draw her to look like yourself—let’s all be lazy together!
