The annual Soggybones trip to Gero is always cooked. I was riding shotgun throwing back tins as we burnt our way north out of Perth city.
How does one merely forget, even momentarily, the magnitude of soaking up the journey? I don’t mean this trip to Geraldton in particular, but the whole thing. Life itself. The journey versus the destination.
I’d say even the most lo fi, dishevelled human brain is capable of storing hard drive melting amounts of information, yet for some strange reason we temporarily forget the most basic and significant shit. Like… it was never really about the destination, was it?
I’ve met sugar fiends, bakers and people obsessed with life’s greatest little distractions, but you can’t tell me it’s only the jam squeezed inside the donut that makes it taste so god damn sweet. Still with me?
Geraldton is an epic part of Australia with one of the funnest skateparks this side of the hemisphere. But that alone isn’t why we return every year.
It’s the true blue Aussie characters. The stitch ups. The roadside irritations. The near disasters. The magic moments between mates. Finding a ball in the disabled dunny and warming up the plate for a bunch of strangers. The out of nowhere belly laughs. The fat yacks. The late night acid reflections on the ascent or the descent. It’s the in between shit that makes trips like this glorious.

A 5hr road trip with 20kg of photography equipment and a broken down van makes things a little interesting.
Trip photos coming soon to ft. pieces from the latest @soggybones clothing collection.
Not sure how mum will feel about me sharing this, but she’s probably asleep and won’t mind.
I sent her a random text this afternoon with 4 piano chords and said, send me 8-16 bars at 4/4 if you don’t mind. She was tired, however, “can do in an hour”.
15 minutes later she sent me 3 recordings of chord arrangements. (You can hear me texting her as she’s recording). She didn’t like one of them. I said I’d chopped all 3 of them up and turned them into a song. I think the end result is too pretty not to share. Thanks Mum ❤️🔥I’ll probs delete this and fix it properly. Goodnight
Something different and a new unlock for me. Have a listen to my first remix featuring Mild Minds x Banyan “Haunted” and Nicki Minaj, ASAP Ferg, Madein TYO’s “Move Ya Hips”. Mixed and recorded live on the Flx4 controller. Few fuck ups 🍷
Going to be fun to see what’s possible with this piece of Pioneer equipment.

Verging 40 with open arms and it’s safe to say I’ve learnt a bit about myself over the years.
Mum always said I was different to my siblings. Fearless at first, until later when my mind started scratching at the real world ahead.
Life really is about balance in every aspect.
I was the toddler diving into the deep end headfirst, sink or swim. Stairs were there to be run and jumped. Snapped teeth, broken wings, and a restless mind that led me on solo adventures through random shopping centres, no doubt fuelling Mum’s anxiety. I don’t think I was trouble. Maybe a little later on. Mostly just curious. Wanting to take it all in at my own pace.
So without getting too deep, I’ve always been this way.
My mind has needed taming at times. Realigning. Learning how to exist in a world that doesn’t always move at the same rhythm.
Creativity has always been the foundation of my existence.
An amateur juggler throwing project balls into the air with little understanding of the process ahead. Just pure chaotic feeling and expression with mixed results.
From writing and journalism, where Soggybones was born,
to journaling thoughts into poetry, to discovering the beauty of photography through skateboarding.
I’m currently in the midst of writing my first book, Goldilocks.
But I’ve realised some things cannot happen overnight and they should not consume all of your energy.
All of this has been for release not profit.
Right now I am exploring my love of music.
Learning how to shape sounds that resonate.
Turning them into journeys.
Releasing stored energy.
It is pure fun. Pure presence.
And I hope it continues. Only time will tell.
My latest mix is up on SoundCloud.
It is a blend of tracks I was feeling last night before floating on to the next cloud or storm.
Today is a new day, cut it with the grain.
Thanks for listening.
Thanks for reading.
Enjoy yours.
