I’ve heard people say we’re living through a moment of renewed appreciation for intellectual pursuits, and my resolution for 2025 was to be less afraid of coming across as pretentious — so with those two things in mind, I thought I’d join the year end book list trend. These were the ten books that stuck with me most this year, in no particular order.
My resolution for this year was to be less afraid of being outwardly earnest — which boils down to a fear of getting laughed at for the stuff I truly put my heart and soul into. So here goes: I have never been prouder of anything than this third issue of @famousformydinnerparties 🫨
I wrote most of it, somewhat feverishly, in about two months last autumn. It took a while to see the through line in what I had subconsciously been preoccupied with, which came out in the essays I wrote. This issue is in large part about the power of stories and narratives, how they bring us together and tear us apart, about who writes them and who is at their whim. We spent all of this year on the visuals, and I think it’s some of the best work we’ve ever done 😊😊😊😊
Couldn’t imagine better colleagues than @junshen_wu and @sandravonmayer . @marielautsch created the design of our dreams, and @gemmawilsonillu and @lizeprins gave us magic with their illustrations. As always Charlotte Faltas was the biggest help with editing my texts. Thank you 💖
It’s out this Thursday, come by our studio for a drink and chat and smiley fry or two!
