🌃 Night in New York, 2023 79 x 630” (200.6 x 1,600 cm) Acrylic on canvas Night in New York, shown for the first time in this exhibition, is a large-scale panoramic work of ten canvases depicting the skyline from Manhattan to New Jersey. This work expresses the night view of the city the artist saw during his round-trip bicycle ride of about 200 kilometers to Bear Mountain in eastern New York. He says, “I felt as if I had left the world and was looking at the Earth from the atmosphere,” when he looked at the night view of Manhattan while taking a break from the George Washington Bridge on his way home from the top of the mountain. Impressed by the sight of New York shining quietly across the Hudson River, Yoon Hyup completed this large-scale work with meticulous planning and spontaneous expression. Inspired by the Impressionist painter Monet’s “Water Lilies” series, which he saw at the Orangerie Museum in Paris, he created his version of the night view of New York, the artist’s second hometown, with about 2,200 strokes and 1,400 dots on a 16-meter-wide screen. 이번 전시에서 최초로 공개하는 <뉴욕의 밤>은 열 폭의 캔버스로 이어진 대규모 파노라마 작품으로, 맨해튼에서 뉴저지까지 연결되는 스카이라인을 묘사합니다. 이 작품은 작가가 뉴욕 동부에 위치한 베어 마운틴까지 약 200킬로미터의 거리를 자전거로 왕복하는 여정 속에서 본 도시의 야경을 표현한 작품입니다. 산 정상을 넘어 집으로 귀가하는 길, 조지 워싱턴 대교에서 잠시 쉬며 바라 본 맨해튼의 야경을보며 윤협은 ‘마치 세속을 떠나 대기권에서 지구를 바라보는 듯한 기분이 들었다’라고 말합니다. 허드슨 강 너머에 조용히 빛나는 뉴욕의 모습에 감명을 받은 윤협은 치밀한 계획과 즉흥적인 표현으로 대규모 작품을 완성했습니다. 작가는 파리 오랑주리 미술관에서 본 인상파 화가 모네의 <수련> 연작에서 영감을 받아 가로 16미터로 이어진 화면에 약 2,200개의 획과 1,400개의 점으로 작가의 제 2의 고향인 뉴욕의 야경을 자신만의 시각으로 구성했습니다. ✍️: @lottemuseum Nocturne City 2024. 02. 24 (SAT) - 2024. 05. 26 (SUN) #YoonHyup #Nocturnecity #LotteMuseum #2024LMoA

Permanent, 2025 Acrylic on canvas 45 x 64 in (114.3 x 162.6 cm) One day in Paris, my wife and I were walking through the Tuileries and ended up getting on the Ferris wheel. We got on it once during the day, then came back after dinner and went up again. The rooftops, the city lights, seeing it all from up there felt different each time. I started this piece after returning to New York. Right as I was almost finishing it, I came across news about the Louvre. It made me pause for a moment. But the word “permanent” kept coming to mind as I completed the piece, what it really means, and what it actually holds.
