LIVING CANVAS: BERLIN is an interactive and collaborative art installation inviting visitors to create a drawing and then allowing an open-source AI to randomly animate their drawing with no prompt guidance. For this iteration, each animation is produced in under 3 minutes. Everything is created and processed locally on a laptop with only 6gb VRAM.
The outcome is random, fun, and inspiring ✨
.
.
For the techno-curious, the most recent generated animation is projected on the left side, looping until the next animation is created, and then a random selection of previous generations are projected on the right side.
All drawings are animated via a custom workflow in ComfyUI. This is then made viewable/ projected via a python script that pulls the image + animation from a “hot folder” and sends it to Resolume.

New experiments in animation via #comfyUI ✨
.
Custom workflow for a portable no-prompt/ image analysis > interpretation system incorporating an input switch for image or webcam to generate 4-second animations with a 6gb VRAM laptop in under 2-minutes. Then a python script instantly pushes each new render to #ResolumeArena to be projected 🤓

Dream > Poem > Visualized (scene 01)
“Kubla Khan: or A Vision in a Dream” (/ˈkuːblə ˈkɑːn/) is a poem written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, completed in 1797 and published in 1816. It is sometimes given the subtitles “A Vision in a Dream” and “A Fragment.” According to Coleridge’s preface to “Kubla Khan”, the poem was composed one night after he experienced an opium-influenced dream after reading a work describing Xanadu, the summer capital of the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty of China founded by Kublai Khan (Emperor Shizu of Yuan). Upon waking, he set about writing lines of poetry that came to him from the dream until he was interrupted by “a person on business from Porlock”. The poem could not be completed according to its original 200–300 line plan as the interruption caused him to forget the lines. He left it unpublished and kept it for private readings for his friends until 1816 when, at the prompting of Lord Byron, it was published.
(Excerpt from Wikipedia)
Scene 01:
“Kubla Khan”
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round;
And here were gardens bright with sinuous rills
Where blossom’d many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
**Prompt**
“Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ comes to life. In the painterly style of a High Renaissance fresco, animate the apostles reacting with shock, anger, and sorrow to Jesus’s words. Jesus remains serene at the center. The motion is dramatic but realistic to the painted style. Maintain the original composition. The mood is tense and historical.”
