working on an exhibition of William Blake, an artist I’ve loved since I was 14 years old, has been an incredibly surreal experience! I am beyond thrilled/grateful to have helped bring Blake to The National Gallery of Ireland as a Tate touring exhibition.
major shout out to the dream team! @_lauren_buckley_@tate
p.s
got to see Francis Bacon’s studio 🤯
I’m going through this really fun phase where I hate everything I make. I think it’s because of everything that’s happening in the world. I find it hard to see value in the work I make given it makes absolutely zero contribution to helping fix anything. It just makes me feel better (sometimes) which makes me feel selfish. I think it would be opportunistic to make work about how the state of the world is affecting little old me and on the other hand I feel it is arrantly daunting and egocentric to believe I of all people could make work that addresses such grave matters. However, given that all art is inherently political (don’t be dumb and think it’s not) and I’m no where near close to resolving/accepting any of these external or internal conflicts - all I can do is do what I do and critique it for not being enough.
In conclusion: here’s a few purple pieces that may seem simple, but I promise you there’s a lot going on in the mind of their maker.
