~documenting process~ I've been drawing inspiration from Alvin Lucier’s explorations of resonance and xerox art from the 60s/70s - using a household desktop copier as a site for physical inquiry, exploring the malleability of memory and capturing the body in states of generational loss - copying each copy 20 times over until my anatomy dissolves into color fields, topography and digital noise. a kind of ledger for becoming/unbecoming. more on the way βœ¨πŸ–¨οΈπŸ‘οΈ the end result will consist of 61 original copies / 20 full body dissolve sequences - an archive of around 1200 images.

5 years ago I spotted this ceramic pigeon under the raised Q train tracks in Brighton Beach, sitting behind a locked chain link fence. Every time I attempted to plot a rescue, I couldn't find a way in - but yesterday I noticed someone opened the gate, and today it was still open, so I leapt at the opportunity. Welcome to the family πŸ’–βœ¨πŸ¦β€β¬›

Lol so Moon's separation anxiety has single-handedly destroyed almost all of the 15 accordion blinds that came with our house. I found a full roll of pink fabric & a spool of blue yarn at Big Reuse, dowels & brass cuphooks at Home Depot, and these are our windows 🏩 Definitely the gayest bungalow in the complex now ✨

We're only halfway through unpacking but I found a box with some old works that were tucked away in the studio. These were the first scratch-aways I did in 2023...a little different technique, with a bit more shape blocking and color washes. Can't remember if I ever shared them here 🫣 I've been working on writing a mythology - world building around my concept of Phantom Shore - and these were some visual concepts for part of the story. More on that to come 🫴 enjoy these for now πŸ’–

some more photocopy research πŸ–¨οΈ a copy, of a copy, of a copy, and on and on - the goal being complete image decay, in sequence, back to a blank sheet of paper but I'm hungover, and this is where I'll stop for now

Amongst my other projects that I have planned for this year, one that came up quite unexpectedly was the opportunity to sift through the photo slide archives of my Pop Chet. My uncle gifted me a box with three bags containing hundreds and hundreds of slides (which they planned to discard after saving the ones of family) - images of places, people, art and everyday tableaus. I bought a little handheld slide viewer, and plan on going through the bags to archive and use...in some way, TBD. Pop Chet was a man of many hobbies - framing and photography being two of the most prominent. He was incredibly sentimental, finding beauty and value in everything he collected. I don't think the world ever got to see that from him really. He and my Nana were half the reason I got into art in the first place. They were always gifting me supplies, books and tools, and their home in New Jersey was filled with a beautiful salon style collection of art, prints, objects, antiques and trinquets that continue to inspire me. Did this sentimentality translate into hoarding? Absolutely, and it was a problem in his later years. But going to and rooting through their house was one of my favorite events as a kid. Pop passed in 2010 - I was in college, and didn't get to say goodbye properly. He used to tell me when I was young that he wanted me to help him document his life. In my teenage years, I never took that seriously...maybe now's my opportunity. More updates on this to come. In the meantime, here are a few teasers ✨

I've been contemplating self portraiture and how to capture my body's details as it changes - by age, stage in transition, in general - with tools I already have available to me. In this case, a Canon G3270 desktop printer. I would like to be able to know it visually, deeply - immense details - numbers, textures, structures, hex codes, etc, etc. How many hairs sit between my sternum and my belly button? How many pores can I count on my left cheek? What do the stretch marks on the backs of my arms look like up close? What is the exact color patterns of the skin in the interior crease of my right hip? I think I tired my printer out for the day, so I leave it here for now.
