The war on Iran has exposed how dangerous it is to rely on oil and gas. Instead of investing in cleaner, safer alternatives, the U.S. is doubling down on oil and it’s causing chaos and a global economic crisis. 1️⃣ HUMAN COST OF WAR The war on Iran has caused over 6,000 deaths and 45,000+ injuries across 13 countries and displaced millions of people. 2️⃣ ECONOMIC CRISIS FOR YOU, PAY DAY FOR BIG OIL Attacks on the world’s largest oil and gas facilities and the Strait of Hormuz blockade have sent markets into turmoil and oil prices soaring. In the U.S., Americans are now spending $200 million more EACH DAY on gasoline. But American oil executives have raked in $1.4 billion since the war on Iran began. 3️⃣ RENEWABLES UNDER ATTACK Meanwhile, the current administration has made it clear it has no interest in alternatives to oil and gas. Since taking office: 🚫 365 clean energy projects have been cancelled 🚫 $61 billion in investments has been lost 🚫 180,000 clean energy jobs have been cut 🚫 This could have powered 14.6 million homes with clean, affordable energy. 4️⃣ IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY Transitioning to renewable energy provides the best chance for true national security and energy independence. No one can blockade sunshine. No army goes to war over wind.

We all know oil and gas has been stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, but there’s another critical resource trapped in the passageway: fertilizer. SKYROCKETING PRICES 📈 The Gulf region produces a third of the world’s fertilizer supply, but it’s been trapped in the Strait for over two months. 📈 Global fertilizer prices have skyrocketed, and have even doubled in key food-producing countries. THE GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY TIME BOMB 🌾 Half of global food production depends on fertilizer. 🌾 The U.S. is the world’s largest food exporter, but 70% of farmers here now say they can’t afford to buy the fertilizer they need. 🌾 India, the world’s largest exporter of rice, relies heavily on fertilizer, and without it, they may not have a harvest this year. WHY THE GULF IS SO IMPORTANT ⛽ Gas is both a fuel and raw material for fertilizer production. ⛽ And the Gulf produces 20% of the world’s gas supply. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? 🍚 Major gas infrastructure in the Gulf has been damaged — so even if the Strait opens, gas and fertilizer prices are unlikely to return to normal any time soon. 🍚 The blockade has already disrupted planting seasons across South Asia, Australia and East Africa. 🍚 Food prices will surge when harvests inevitably fail. ANOTHER FUTURE IS POSSIBLE ☀️ Fertilizer can be made without gas. ☀️ Why does the gas industry get to dictate how we grow our food?

The war on Iran is wreaking havoc not only on the world's oil and gas prices, but also the price of food. And today's crisis is leading to a far bigger one in the months ahead.

From items in our kitchens to the air we breathe, the production and daily use of plastics and petrochemicals are hurting moms, babies, and the rest of us. Mothers living near the country’s 200+ petrochemical plants are exposed to pollution that puts their babies at higher risk of low birth weight, pre-term birth, and lifelong developmental harm — before they ever take their first breath. The threat starts as pollution in fenceline communities across the country and winds up on your kitchen counter, in your child’s toy box, or on your bathroom sink. Every family deserves clean air. Every baby deserves a fair start. We’re working alongside frontline communities to stop the rapid expansion of petrochemical pollution. The war on Iran has spun the global economy into chaos. It turns out making it entirely dependent on oil and gas is not very wise. So while thousands have died and millions struggle to bear skyrocketing costs, oil companies and their executives are lining their pockets. Is this the world we want to live in?

Only two months into the war on Iran, and the damage is already irrevocable. Over 45,000 deaths and injuries, countless infrastructure destroyed and millions of people displaced. Something else is happening too … a war on the climate. The war on Iran has added more carbon pollution to the atmosphere than 84 countries combined. In the first two weeks of the war alone: 5.5 Million Tons of Greenhouse Gases Released 🏭 🚗 5.5 MILLION Tons of GHG = Putting 1.3 MILLION cars on the road 🏬 The emissions primarily come from 20,000 civilian buildings destroyed by the conflict, but also from crashed aircraft and naval vessels, as well as from bombs, missiles and drones. ⛽ Not to mention the tens of millions of gallons of fuel consumed by ships and aircraft. That’s enough fuel to power up to 85,000 homes for a full year. Over 300 Major Environmental Incidents 🌍 🚫 The Conflict and Environment Risk Observatory has tracked over 300 toxic incidents with risk to the environment in Iran and abroad. 🐟 This includes verified reports of pollution from military sites, marine pollution and damage to fossil energy infrastructure. Oil Wells on Fire 🛢️ 🔥 Israel struck oil wells near Tehran, the capital of Iran. 🌧️ The wells caught fire, releasing soot, hydrocarbons and sulfur dioxide, causing acid rain and severe respiratory impacts. 🧨 Between 2.5m and 5.8m barrels of oil have been burned in that attack and similar strikes. Pollutants from explosions 💥 💣 The Israeli Air Force has dropped more than 18,000 bombs on Iran since the start of the war. ⛔ Missiles and bombs contain heavy metals and other toxic pollutants. 🚱 When they explode, these pollutants bleed into the water, air and soil, causing a long-term pollution nightmare. Even if the war stopped today, the impact on human health and the environment is already catastrophic. #ThisIsClimateChange

Can you imagine the pollution created by a million cars running for an entire year? That’s how much pollution the war on Iran produced in just the first two weeks. #ThisIsClimateChange

The war on Iran is sending the world economy into chaos and oil and gas are to blame once again. While oil executives line their pockets, thousands have died and millions are struggling to bear the cost. Is this the world we want to live in?
