THE BACKSTAGESHOTS- of my fashion collection ‘Raabta’ राब्ता during the fashion show ‘Eigenachtig’ by Akademie Vogue 2018 The research in sustainability fashion for this collection went deep and in many ways; This outfit ‘Jeansdress’ is an example of one of those experimental ways from it. 👖✨ Sustainability x handcraft techniques. I asked my supporters if they would like to donate their leftover jeans. I got loads and have selected them on color and strengths to make it wearable with a nice ‘dye’ look. (Some are never worn from top brands, can you imagine how much water it costs to make one pair of jeans!?) I reused these personal pieces to create them into a new design. More than 10! Jeans I handcut with hours of work and made one big ‘yarn’ ball to handbraid the patterns to make the ‘Jeansdress’. Wearable by different type of human. The structure refers to the human DNA. We’re all are made from the same but different. This ‘Jeansdress’ design got it’s temporary place and can still bee seen @wisseldegalerie , recently in the program of Museumnacht Amsterdam 2023. THE BACKSTAGESHOTS- of my fashion collection ‘Raabta’ राब्ता during the fashion show ‘Eigenachtig’ by Akademie Vogue 2018 ‘I SEE YOU’ The fabric of this top is a special designed saree to wear multifunctional. Known from it several meters of fabric. It has the dessin on it with eyes ‘looking’ at you with the message ‘I see you’. Even it’s shown from the backside, these eyes still see you for who you truly are and seen as a human. This dessin of eyes on fabric is a proces; first I sketched it analog, made it digital and send it to India where handcraftsmen made a blockprint of it and blockprinted the saree by hand with natural indigo. The saree is made of a cotton-silk blend and has been tie dyed with natural red color. All this in collaboration with @textielfactorij The trousers are made from leftover saree and can be wrapped on different sizes of human bodies. Together these designs created a luxery look! Also with a research of several forms of sustainability. Many layers I found out, what makes it important for me as a deisgner to know, but also facing the dilemma’s in the work proces; Did you know a form of sustainability is if more types of human can wear the same clothes? Ánd that fabric stores also have to deal with the fact that they have to sell their ‘leftover’ fabrics? This streetstyle outfit, with the top inspired of the indian kurta, and the trousers are both made of leftover fabric from a local fabric store in my neighborhood. The transparant fabric refers to ‘see’ within te human body wearing the outfit. Shirt is hand stitched with embroided dessin designed hearts with the tekst ‘equality from the heart’ in Hindi translation. A proces form anolog work with embroidery techniques. Through the openings of the hearts a scarf is braided, a bio cotton scarf inside out colored by the Indian tie dyed technique ‘bhandani’ in natural colors of red and indigo. Made by craftsmen in India in collaboration with @textielfactorij . It stands for that we have all blood in our veins circulated through the body by the heart. First I designed a dessin design of hands. Hands as part of the human that connects, greet and can hold others. Hands are very inspiring to me cause there is so much communication in it and with hands we also create. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This was a process of analog drawing turned into graphics. This bio cotton is blockprinted with the natural color of Indigo. First proces of the eye design I did analog and digital after handcraftsmen in India made a wooden blockprint of it and printed the fabric. This was a collaboration with @textielfactorij The fabric is made by handcraftsmen in India, country of my roots. The kurta and legging is made of leftover fabrics of fabric stores. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I wanted this print gives the image that this outfit ‘can see you’ in a playful way you can change the look of the eyes.
