Our friend, John P. Bowers III, former Morehouse Student Body President, has made history as the first Black man elected to the Rowlett City Council at just 26 years old! This is a massive victory for young people across the state of Texas and Morehouse alum everywhere! John is an inspiration and excellent example of what happens when we invest in our youth👏🏾 Congratulations, John! @t.bow20

The Young Democrats of Atlanta proudly congratulate Ciara Smith on her historic appointment as the youngest and first Black woman to serve as Mayor of Anniston, Alabama. Ciara’s commitment to public service began early—at just 16, she was already working in local government. A 2020 graduate of Spelman College, she went on to become the youngest elected official in Anniston’s history, demonstrating the power of youth leadership in shaping our communities. From breaking down international barriers to supporting former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ campaign and interning with Congressman Hank Johnson, Ciara Smith has consistently shown what’s possible when young people are empowered to lead.
