Mystery Link is now installed !! Our second iteration of this work in case you missed last year’s show. Come check out the work in ‘The Great Hall’ (2nd Floor of 100 McCaul St / OCADU) as part of the group exhibit —> ’Faceted.’ On until this Friday Feb 27th. Free & open to the public every day 7:30AM - midnight (you’ll need card access after 8pm, shoot me a text or email me if you plan on coming later in the evening on any of the dates) There’ll be a little reception on the evening of Wednesday February 25th 5-7PM— please join us then, would love to see you there! ‘Mystery Link’ is a collaborative installation encompassing interconnected drawings and risograph prints on found, gifted, and recycled stationery; paired with a live-feed and looping 2D & stop-motion animations transmitted between CRT monitors through tin-can telephones. Blurring the boundaries between digital and physical space, characters move across mediums, sharing secrets and exchanging glances; swaying toward one another while caught in an endless game of broken telephone. Set up at @zine___dream until 5pm today! Come say hi :^D I got two new floppies — “zen mode” a 30pg short & silly comic starring an ape and crocodile and “birdfeed” which comes w a foldout poster. And i got lots of old stuff up for grabs too! I’ll set up a webshop eventually for non-local pals that are interested in stuff and I’ll share more about that when I get around to it… Like many, I’ve been trying to spend less time on my phone in general and especially less time on instagram, which has been nice! By blurring the boundaries between digital and real-world environments, the characters interact through sharing secrets, exchanging glances, swaying towards one another, all while playing a never-ending game of broken telephone. if you would like to come check it out, it will be up for viewing until Friday February 28th in the Great Hall (2nd floor main space) at ocadu. We also have a closing reception on Thursday Feb 27 5-7pm where you can come chat with with all the artists participating in the group show…. 🍀 come say hi!

Wanted to share this clip of Super 8 footage I shot at TCAF 2023. I believe the first one I attended was in 2007, when @torontocomics was held at UofT’s Victoria College. Subsequently, I think all the TCAFs have been at the iconic Toronto Reference Library (seen in the video, with its beautiful elevators) designed by Raymond Moriyama. Often times coinciding with Mother’s Day weekend. I think I’ve gone every year since I was in high school and it’s always overwhelmingly inspiring. I kind of associate the reference library with TCAF, it helps that there is a robust archive and collection of zines available there. It’s one of the most iconic places in the city. I’ll often find myself picturing Knives Chau with her scarf and daggers or Matt Johnson using the 3D printer when I’m at the reference library. Anyways, I wanted to dig up this clip share because this year TCAF will be held at TMU’s Mattamy Athletic Centre. Excited to see what that’s like. I think it’ll be larger but will very likely have less beautiful elevators. Gonna miss seeing a sea of cartoonists and comic fans and also regular library patrons scattered across three floors inside this beautiful building. I got my first super 8 camera the same morning as this clip. Shot on 500T, mostly starring @slugtrain ⭐️ I also remember that morning was the first time I saw Chester Brown’s new beard. 🎅 The music in this video is “Comic-Con” off the @payingforitfilm soundtrack by Lee & Gamble Unlimited @sookyinleee @dylangamblez , which I thought was fitting. Please go and watch the movie!!! It’s really good, as a film in and of itself and doubly so as an adaptation of the Chester Brown graphic memoir. Also, I got to be a background actor in the movie and I’m on screen with some cartoonist friends for like two seconds during the Comic-Con scenes which was fun!! I recall immediately after I submit my information for the background acting gig on Paying For It, I rushed to the TIFF Lightbox to catch an evening screening of “They Live.” I managed to snag the last ticket in the otherwise sold out screening that night. And when I arrived, I found myself sitting next to Chester Brown— I couldn’t believe it LOL

Cyanotype I made in August that I’m sharing because it’s my birthday today. Recently, I have been trying to practice saying, “I love you” more often. Telling my close friends and myself, and the skies and dirt and various living + non-living things around me: “I love you” when I remember to. It took a bit of practice, but ultimately feels good to do so. In the past, birthdays have usually been difficult for me, my own often makes me feel uncomfortable or hollow. A combination of a sort of sadness and existential melancholy. Like Charlie Brown haha. A very blue feeling. It’s been that way for as long as I can remember… This past year has been a long and strange one. I see and feel many changes everywhere— all around, and inside me. I am learning to embrace new things and let go of old habits and ways of thinking. I haven’t always been good at celebrating, but I want to celebrate the end of another year as it closes around the corner. Maybe sincerely sharing one million “I love you’s” out loud every day can be a good start. Who’s to say… Today, I am looking forward to taking a walk around High Park. So if you happen to have any food or scenic recommendations in the area that you’re willing to share, please do send me a message. Wishing the best for you and me. I love you. ***

Happy to share that LOOK will be playing Saturday morning & afternoon as part of @reelasian ‘s Wee Asian programme at Innis Town Hall! There’ll be a bunch of other activities throughout the day as well, all free and drop-in!! Check it out + bring your smallest friend… I’ll be at the 10am screening tomorrow✌️ Overall, I’ve been having a really great time at the festival this year so far. Meeting and chatting and eating and doodling with new and old friends! 🥂 <3 ONE GOOD MEAL IS WORTH MORE THAN A THOUSAND FESTIVAL LAURELS !!!!!!!
