. Mander, ‘s ischt Zeit! Project by @yasminkhalify Concept & Performance: @yasminkhalify Photography: @cappellari_archive “I wrap myself in the fabric of the land’s resistance while embodying the figure of the ultimate ‘other.’ My identity has always been shaped by displacement. Growing up in South Tyrol, I was confronted early on with the region’s historic tension between its German- and Italian-speaking communities. My own background added another layer of complexity: born to a local mother and a Tunisian-Berber father, I inhabited a space where no single label fit. I carry these cultures, yet I have always lived in the silence between them. I stage myself in the Stube of my grandmother’s house in San Genesio. This wood-paneled room, where I was baptized, functions here as a repository of rigid memory, a space of observation and quiet estrangement. I perform the dissonance of my identity. I wear a headscarf constructed from a blue Schurz, the traditional apron of South Tyrolean farmers, historically a symbol of silent resistance. Embroidered across my chest is the phrase ‘Meinem Land Tirol die Treue’. By repurposing this symbol of local purity to resemble a Muslim niqab, I create a visual paradox. These self-portraits do not resolve contradiction; they dwell in it. They ask the viewer to step into the quiet ache of existing between worlds. A profound thank you to @cappellari_archive for making this possible. This was far more than a project we created together; it was a shared emotional process. Thank you for the connection we found in these heavy themes and for holding space for this vulnerability.”

I always thought that when our loved ones die, they go up in the sky and live there. They build houses of clouds. And I used to think that clouds were made of cotton. But then I understood that their job is to determine whether it will rain or not. This is a short story about clouds. You can't tell if they are moving or not. You don't know if the sun is drowning in them, or if they are shadowing the sun. You can't know how the atmosphere feels if you are above them. There are those dreams where we felt like we were throwing ourselves on them, not knowing if they can carry us or not. I'm sitting down here telling stories about them, and they are up there changing forms, turning around this earth and not caring, not even a bit, about us. -Elie Fahed
