Introducing Yanna Marie
@yannas_artstudio ⚖️
Creative organizer, activist, writer, and visual artist, Yanna Marie uses her work to amplify Black voices. Much of her recent work is centered around healing from trauma that generated from growing up in the USA. Her #BlackLivesMatter artwork and self-portraits focus on representation and social awareness. Additionally, she leans on her background in Art Therapy to help her and others creatively express themselves and address mental illness in a liberating way. At RCA, she is researching methods of therapeutic art for people from the African-diaspora, specifically African Americans. Yanna works with a wide range of materials, including paint, film, clay, synthetic hair, magazine/collage, and found objects. To Yanna, it is important to use materials that aren’t hard to come by, since one of her missions is to make creating art more accessible to all people.
