Our community needs more of us to step up as upstanders, not later, not someday, but now. 💛 Organizations like @latinomemphis @sucasamemphis @tnimmigrant are doing critical work, and they can’t do it alone. If you’ve ever wondered how to help, this is your moment. Can’t volunteer in person? You can still show up. Join @vecindarios901 and complete their training right from your phone. Your voice and presence matters more than you think. ✨ This opportunity requires you to be fully bilingual. If you’re not bilingual but know someone who is, please don’t scroll past — share this with them today. Silence and inaction help no one. Our neighbors deserve more from us. 🤝 #Upstander #CommunityCare #ShowUp #MemphisCommunity #LatinoMemphis Vecindarios901 SuCasaMemphis TNImmigrant ImmigrantRights CommunitySupport BeTheChange VolunteerNow BilingualVoices LatinxCommunity StandWithImmigrants MutualAid NeighborsHelpingNeighbors CommunityLove ActNow DontLookAway PeoplePower Grassroots Solidarity MemphisTN ServeYourCommunity

We need art, culture, and community to survive…and to resist. We keep the light shining in the face of fear, uncertainty, and distrust. Silence is not neutral. Creativity is not passive. To my artist community in Memphis and around the world: be bold. be loud. be visible. Speak truth through your music, your art, your movement. Be an Upstander with your art. I’m sharing my design proposal for the Cordova Bert Ferguson Community Center, a vision rooted in collective care, dignity, and belonging. 🗳️ Please VOTE for your favorite mural. Voting ends TODAY, Friday, January 16 at noon 🗳️ Deep respect and kudos to the powerful designs by fellow artists @kristenSandlin and @jadenlspencer honored to stand alongside you. #BeAnUpstander #ArtIsAction #CultureIsPower #PublicArtMatters #MemphisArtist

There is so much happening out there, so many painful situations on both the micro and macro levels. The weight of it has taken a toll on my body, as I’ve developed several autoimmune conditions brought on by stress. It feels as if my candlelight is slowly fading, allowing frustration, anger, and sadness to seep into my heart until everything appears clouded. Professionally, I haven’t been able to channel my artistic voice as I once did (nearly eight years ago) when I created my version of Art of Protest, countering negative rhetoric with visual works of unity and calls to action. Personally, I always believed I would grow stronger, wiser, and kinder with age, yet lately the opposite has felt true. It is time for me to pause and find my center again. With the love and support of my family and friends, I’ve embarked on a healing journey; one that will nurture my body, mind, and spirit, and that will help me gather tools to carry into the future. Beyond that, my artistic practice is shifting toward a space where art and holistic wellness intersect. I’ll humbly share glimpses of this journey as time and wifi :) allow. Perhaps a word, a phrase, a verse, or a photo from my time here in India might help soothe some of your own wounds. I welcome what is coming with open arms. As the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale reaches mid-summer, we’re proud to share more about brg3s in collaboration with @yancyart contribution: The Memphis Slim Collaboratory, a tribute to the spirit of Memphis blues, community, and creative resilience. Located in Soulsville the childhood neighborhood of blues legend Memphis Slim the project transforms his former home into a vibrant hub for musicians and neighbors alike. At its heart is the front porch, a symbolic and functional space deeply rooted in Memphis’s musical tradition. Historically, porches served as informal stages where blues musicians played, shared stories, and shaped their sound. That legacy lives on in the Collaboratory’s porch, now a platform for collaboration, connection, and creativity. Reclaimed materials from the original home are thoughtfully incorporated into the design, preserving its historic character while reflecting the resourceful spirit of the Memphis music scene where limitation has long inspired innovation. At the Biennale, this spirit is captured in an porch instrument an interactive object inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and enjoy the shade and rhythm of front porch life. This installation is part of PORCH: An Architecture of Generosity, exploring the porch as a site of civic and cultural life. It is co-commissioned by Peter MacKeith (Dean, Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, University of Arkansas), Susan Chin (Founding Principal, DesignConnects), and Rod Bigelow (Executive Director, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Momentary). On view through November 23, 2025. A huge thank you to @rixwoodwurx for the beautiful hardwood. And thank you to the project team of @j_p_jackson @yancyart @gracem_15 @yesthatsari #porchusa2025 @crystalbridgesmuseum #fayjonesschool #uspavilion @venice.architecture.biennale

Art has always been my refuge in dark times. Art is a common language and brings us together. This week is #ARTSweek and I am very appreciative of @artsmemphis for their constant support to all of us, artists, creatives, and art organizations. Please support ARTSmemphis as much as possible so more music, poetry, dance, film, theatre, visual art edify Memphis and lift us up through uncertain times. #supportthearts #supportartmemphis
