Slow Construct (@slowconstruct ) is a collective of architect-makers exploring the intersection of architecture, craftsmanship, and art. For CODE & CRAFT, ‘Urban Stratigraphy’ is the collective’s response to how historic artefacts from various periods are frequently unearthed piece by piece, often by accident. Four artists interpret the temporal and material strata of the city through their own lens:
Natcha Kucita | Present Layer | @thevesseloflight
Klinton Lau | Future Layer | @yanade_studio
Chien-Hua Huang | Medieval Layer | @chienh_h
Nick Lee | Historical Layer | @slowthrow.ceramics
This project layers time and materiality to reflect not just the city’s form, but its memory, disruption, and renewal—the result is a multi-authored archive that is tactile, incomplete, and investigative.
See it live at CODE & CRAFT — free entry, RSVP today via link in bio.

Balenciaga’s SS 2020 runway show designed by La Mode en Images, has one of the most inspiring stage setting. The show’s design theme European Parliament.
The round shaped stage was formed with two slopes and they ware intersecting to each other at the lowest point in the Centre of the stage. This gives a sense of different countries have their own policy/decision, yet they all share the same aim/desire - ‘a better future’.

This is a zen garden inspired terrarium in side a jar. Zen garden embraces the idea of remaining the same throughout seasons. To achieve that, it uses sand and rock to represent waves and mountain. Moreover, when it comes to choices of plant, it tends to use moss or plants that is evergreen with no flowering .
Terrariums are miniature gardens inside sealable container that functions as (albeit tiny) plant ecosystems, it is mostly self-sustaining, with the plants watering themselves through transpiration and condensation. It will remain the same looking over time with minimal maintenance.

This reflection from the pet bowl reminds me of Tadao Ando, a Japanese architect, who is in famous with his minimalist building style. Instead of using patters and colours, he uses concrete blocks and water to emerge light, shadow and the surrounding into his building.

For Yenade, we value traditional making techniques and use them in our designs. Photo above is an experiment with shou sugi ban (焼杉板), a Japanese crafting technique. It helps to preserve wood by making it waterproof and anti-fungal.

Incense burning is one of the best way to self meditate with. However, the cleaning process can be quite irritating especially when ashes drop outside the container.

This is the product logo of Yanade. It is inspired by ‘人’ is Chinese, with the meaning of human. Whereas it is also an ‘Y’ when it turns upside down just like Yanade’s English logo.

YANADE
was formed by two words. ‘Yan’ is the Cantonese romanisation of ’人‘. its meaning in English is the human being. Followed by ‘Ade’ which was taken from the English word ‘made’. We believe the ‘M’ of made is representing mankind. Therefore, we decided to combine these words from different languages into one referring to the studio’s Chinese name, yet remaining the meaning of man-made and designing for humans. Moreover, we hope it can speak up our cultural identity just as our home gadgets project is going to.
