‘Safe Haven’ returns to Arcola Theatre in a new production directed by Yad Deen (@yaddeen ).
Written by former British diplomat Chris Bowers, the play is rooted in the 1991 Kurdish exodus and the decisions taken in Whitehall as the world watched a humanitarian crisis unfold.
For Kurdish audiences in the UK, especially second-generation Kurds, it is also a chance to encounter a defining chapter of recent Kurdish history on stage.

جاء هذا الفيلم نتيجة مشروع بحثي مدعوم من برنامج المعرفة المادية المهددة بالانقراض (EMKP) والمستضاف في المتحف البريطاني. يسلّط الفيلم الضوء على صانعي اللباد في كفري وسنجار، وعلى القصص الإنسانية المرتبطة بالحرفة؛ من الذاكرة والتراث، إلى القمع والتهجير، وصولاً إلى صمود المجتمع والمثابرة في الحفاظ على هذا الإرث. يوثّق الفيلم تجارب الحرفيين خلف وسليم، اللذين يمثلان جزءاً من الذاكرة الحية لهذه الحرفة العريقة.

سيُعرض الفيلم بحضور المخرجة، يلي العرض نقاش مفتوح حول المشروع وأهمية الحفاظ على هذا التراث.

I have been supporting numerous award-winning films from Kurdistan in recent years, and I’m currently supporting director @sadiart ’s short film, THE METAMORPH.
This is a very human story focussing on the courageous @shatiligo and is told as an experimental documentary. Her subtle voice immerses us into her journey as we explore the beautiful visuals presented by her and the director.
I was immediately struck by the substance of this film and felt compelled to support it in getting on the global festival stage, and eventually distributed.
