My sweet Mika. My comfort and joy. No amount of time would have been enough, but I was lucky enough to have 14 years. You were there for 11 houses, 3 cities, 2 states. We took adventures to the beach from the pacific to the gulf, you saw the farms in Iowa, we hiked at the Grand Canyon together. Since I was 17, you were my one constant companion. The one who kept me going at my lowest points. My child and my friend. You taught me to love and be loved unconditionally.
I was searching for some way to face the difficult decision to let you go and am grateful for a quote I found, which I’ll keep telling myself: I have successfully taken you the whole way. You did not get lost, you were not unhappy, you got to live your whole natural life the way I wanted you to live it. We made it. We got there together.
I’ll never forget the feeling of your warm body snuggled into my side while we sleep or your head resting on my leg on the couch. I can’t wait for the time that we meet again, but until then I’ll cherish your memory every day. 🌈
