Somewhere between where I came from and where I am now, I’ve learned that finding my place should never mean letting go of the parts of me that made me.
There are pieces of me that crossed oceans with me. The language, the memories, the values, the traditions, and the little reminders of home that still show up in the way I move through the world.
And I’m learning that I don’t have to soften those parts just to be understood.
I can grow in a new place and still honor the one that raised me. I can change, adapt, and become more of myself without forgetting my pinagmulan.
Maybe identity is learning that every version of me, every place I’ve called tahanan, and every piece of my kwento is still mine.

My biggest takeaway from @canonusa was this: be open, even when things feel uncertain ✨
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was hearing advice for students and young professionals about taking unexpected opportunities, being okay with not knowing everything yet, and understanding that career paths are not always linear. You are going to pivot, learn, and grow in ways you probably do not expect, and that can lead to something even better than what you originally planned.
That message honestly stuck with me so much because it made success feel less about having everything perfectly mapped out and more about being willing to grow through change 🤍
So grateful to @sbucareercenter and DPLN for giving me the chance to experience a day like this and leave with a perspective that I know I will carry with me 📸

Ube isn’t just a flavor in the Philippines 🇵🇭 It’s a whole personality 😌💜 from halo-halo to cakes to ice cream, it’s basically the main character of Filipino desserts and every family has their own “best ube” debate!
Easter fun fact 🐣 In the Philippines, big celebrations almost always call for ube 💜 as it is a must to be served at gatherings, especially in cakes and sweets that bring everyone together around the table!
As someone who was raised in the Philippines for 18 years, I’ve always been soul searching for that real, rich ube flavor and this truly brought me back home 🙂↕️💜
@kafedemanila920 is such a hidden gem in Somerville, NJ, and the moment you walk in, it really feels like a love letter to Filipino desserts. The purple aesthetic, the cozy vibe, and the warmth from the staff made it feel like a little piece of Manila 🇵🇭
I tried the Ube Matcha, Ube Monster Milkshake, Ube Crinkles, Ube Tres Leches, and Ube Banana Pudding and I’m not exaggerating when I say every single one delivered 😮💨💜 rich, creamy, soft, and full of that authentic ube flavor 🙂↕️
