X CASTING

CASTING is world-building. It has DNA, strategy, philosophy. CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL is built on three lineages: Legacy Ballroom Theatrical These lineages do not operate independently. They work with one another. Ballroom brings cultural authorship, history, and an embodied fluency that cannot be taught. Theatrical brings stamina, discipline, and the tools required to perform with force and precision on Broadway. Legacy recognizes that this work does not exist in abstraction, but in relationship to elders, ancestors, and a continuum of Queer artists who have shaped both Ballroom and Broadway, often without recognition. This casting does not ask performers to act out a culture… it invites and trusts Artists who already live inside The Culture. This is the cast of @catsjellicleball .🐱 We introduce you to the three lineages working together on Broadway to create a “lightning strike”. ⚡️

There are private moments in our work, and then there are monumental moments that sometimes come along too. Today, @catsjellicleball celebrates NINE @thetonyawards nominations. And today, we celebrate our entire cast who showed up audition after audition after audition after callbacks after private sessions over four years (you have no idea the rounds we put them through to find each of them), and each time they’d show up graciously, full force, before any moment like today was ever promised. We see those private small moments for years before the public ever does, and we witness moments like this too where Artist’s like ours take time to share gratitude after an audition, reminding us that the work we do is often in private and that every day our Practice is to practice living creatively, presently, at full force, collaboratively, every day, despite the unknown. We do that in casting too. Every day. Today, we celebrate our cast for collectively earning these NINE Tony nominations including Best Revival. Each of their ‘every-days’ as Artists is infused into these nominations. We celebrate them. We thank them just as much as they thank us. They are the workers running the show that’s giving Broadway a legendary run, unlike anything ever experienced. Congrats, Cats. You’ve earned your NINE lives. Each of you.

A casting process designed to meet a community on its own terms, and to let that authorship shape the production from the inside out. Opening a limited number of Work Sessions for 2026. A 75-minute session with a working casting director, focused on your tapes, your materials, and how you are currently being seen in casting. We go through up to five self-tapes in detail, along with your headshots, resume, and reel. The work is specific. Patterns, repetition, where things are landing, and where they are not. Each session is followed by a personalized 10+ page report with in-depth notes and clear next steps. 15 virtual sessions available for 2026. From the ‘Cats: Jellicle Ball’ archive: Finding Gus September 2023, Our first conversations around casting Gus The Theatre Cat. We were looking at two very different lineages for the role, one rooted in Broadway history through Ken Page, who originated Old Deuteronomy, and one rooted in Ballroom through Junior LaBeija. This was a pitch coming out of casting as we tried to understand not just who should play the role, but what world we were building and who that world needed to be informed by. Since then, the great Ken Page has passed, which makes this moment land differently, a reminder that history and legacy aren’t as distant as we imagine them. In Ballroom, that proximity carries a different weight, elders are not a given, and the community is still losing its members before they ever get the chance to become elders. Cats has always been a piece about memory and return, about who is seen and who is carried forward. That tension between inheritance and evolution was fundamental, and we carried that responsibility with care. This is how ideas are made, how roles are shaped, how casting works behind the scenes. Casting then went to a Ball, in search of Junior... 🪩
