Sons of Xavier are preparing for tonight’s Festival of the Arts, a showcase of student artwork from the year. It is also the last day of Xavier 360, Xavier’s Giving Week, and the spotlight today is on arts and student activities. In honor of both, Janison Suaco '28, Adger Smyth '26, and Gael Guadarrama ‘27 gave a preview of their art on display! Give a gift using the link in bio and support Xavier, including its art department, for years to come.

As part Xavier’s Holocaust Studies Program, Kareen Balsam P’26 spoke to students about a dance piece she choreographed titled, “When I Am Little Again.” The video dance memorial is dedicated to Janusz Korckak, a Polish Jewish doctor, writer, and teacher who advocated for children’s rights, who founded an orphanage, and stayed with the children through transport to Treblinka death camp—even though he was offered a way out. Balsam shared the story of her grandfather, who lived in Korckak’s orphanage in the 1920’s and escaped Poland at the start of World War II.

On Monday, April 27, the Hispanic Club organized a Mass in Spanish to celebrate the Hispanic community and Spanish language within the school. Juniors said readings and freshmen said petitions all in Spanish. “Our Hispanic Mass was a meaningful expression of our Jesuit mission to form men for others,” said club moderator and Spanish teacher Louise Daly. “Celebrating the liturgy in Spanish allowed our students to engage more deeply with both their faith and the rich cultural traditions within our community. It was an opportunity to reflect on the importance of inclusion, respect, and recognizing the dignity of every individual.” La fe nos une y nos llama a servir a los demás. (Faith unites us and calls us to serve others)

Tonight, April 24, is the 15th Celebrate Xavier Scholarship Gala at 583 Park Ave. Since its inception, the Gala’s mission has remained constant—to keep Xavier accessible to all deserving applicants from across New York City and beyond. This school year alone, your generosity has helped to provide more than $6 million in scholarships and tuition assistance to 53% of our student body. As we look back on 15 years of the Gala, we invited four past student speakers to reflect on their journeys beyond 16th Street and the impact a Xavier education had on their lives. This video will play live during our program tonight, but whether you’re with us in person or in spirit you can still participate in Fund-A-Student or the silent auction using the link in our bio. Thank you for 15 years of generosity. Your gifts make Xavier possible.

Yesterday, students in fine arts teacher Billy Maloney '01’s class were visited by artist Lorena Estrella. She taught the students how to use an old fashioned letterpress. Some teachers even joined in the experience to pull prints from the press. #SonsofXavier #JesuitSchools
