We want to thank the amazing supporters who have already donated to our Challenge for Charities fundraiser, and remind others that you have until July 10th (tomorrow) to do so! Your gift will do even more with a match provided by the Lander Community Foundation Challenger Matching Fund, so now is a great time to donate to the projects you care about most.
Donations will go directly towards two new trails at Johnny Behind the Rocks that will reduce overcrowding and conflict on existing trails, and will get folks up to scenic vistas more quickly, and our work to support safe routes to schools, pathways, and walkable/bike-able around loops like Squaw-Baldwin that will continue this year and into the future. Please help us move this work forward by donating to us via Challenge For Charities - LINK IN BIO
We are finishing what we started at Johnny Behind the Rocks near Lander! After the government shutdown delay, we are officially moving forward to complete three major trail additions this year: Moses Returns (4-mile trail), Egyptian Time Machine (extension), and the alternate line called Dad Jokes.
These trails represent a massive step forward for our local riding and hiking community. Completing them requires significant coordination and operational support. By donating to Wyoming Pathways through Challenge for Charities, you are helping us finalize these projects and get them open for everyone to enjoy.
Every donation made between NOW and July 10th is boosted by a match from the Lander Community Foundation.

Big things are on the horizon for us! We are hitting the road at the end of April to focus on the @greatamericanrailtrail . Our team will host strategic meetings with local partners in Lovell, Greybull, Lusk, and Douglas to gather input and plan for the future of this nationwide project. We look forward to the collaboration and momentum these sessions will bring to each community.
Afterward, we will head to the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Summit in Saratoga. We are excited to host a presention our completed updates on the local Tie Hack Trail and lead a field trip for summit attendees. If you are attending the summit, we hope you will join us for this walk-through. It was a huge undertaking last year, and our team (and partners, of course) spent countless hours in the field to make it happen. We are incredibly proud of this project and can't wait to show you all of the improvements!
ATTENTION BIKEPACKERS:
The Adventure Cycling Association has officially launched the Golden Gravel Trail - a new 3,804 mile mixed-surface route traversing 8 states from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, including Wyoming! With 65% of the route on unpaved surfaces, the trail combines off-road riding with stunning American landscapes, from rolling Ozark hills and endless Great Plains to stark deserts, challenging alpine passes, and the dramatic Pacific coastline. We are excited about this new opportunity for cyclists to see a little corner of our state, and the amazing riding Wyoming has to offer.
Check out @adventurecycling for more info on the Golden Gravel Trail, and make sure to let us know if you have a chance to ride it! 🚴

Wyoming Pathways is excited to attend the City of Lander Open House on Wednesday, March 11, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Lander Community and Convention Center. Stop by our booth to hear about exciting local updates, including the installation of new pedestrian-activated crosswalks at dangerous, high-traffic intersections (a project we are working on with the city and the LOR Foundation) and the progress of three new trails at Johnny Behind the Rocks. We will also be discussing our ongoing advocacy for trail funding across the entire state. There is no formal presentation, so come enjoy one-on-one conversations with our team. We look forward to seeing you there!
If you are unable to attend the open house, please contact City Hall at (307) 332-2870 ext. 113 to make alternative arrangements.
As a small nonprofit organization, our partners are essential to getting our work done, and we want to recognize all the amazing businesses that support us with everything from sponsorship to printing.
Special shoutout to PBR Printing in Cheyenne for helping us facilitate an awesome event to bring together representatives, senators, and community leaders from around the state to rally around the growth of outdoor recreation during the Legislative Session last week.
We are grateful for all of our local partners who make our work possible - thank you!
If your business or organization is interested in partnering, get in touch! We are always excited to connect.
ACTION ALERT: Support the future of Wyoming’s outdoor recreation with a quick email NOW. We are advocating for HB0001 and Amendment 3083 to help fund projects like the Lovell trail system more quickly.
Amendment 3083 moves money from the state’s rainy day fund to put $20 million into long-term savings and $10 million directly into the income account. This means grant dollars can be awarded to communities immediately instead of years from now.
Contact your House member and ask them to support HB0001 and Amendment 3083. Your personal stories about why this matters to you are the most effective way to make an impact. Contact info link: https://www.wyoleg.gov/Legislators?blm_aid=0
If you have questions, please reach out to Michael at [email protected].

Curious about the next big trail connection in Wyoming? We advocate for every corner of the state, but our first project preview of the year takes us to Johnny Behind the Rocks in Lander.
After a year of intensive planning alongside the BLM, we are moving forward with "Moses Returns." This 4-mile multi-use connection between Red Ridge and the "Waterfall Trail" at Johnny Behind the Rocks will serve hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners, and equestrians.
Despite a slight delay caused by the Autumn 2025 government shutdown, our team is energized for a productive year. We are currently scheduled to complete "Moses Returns" while also working on completing "Egyptian Time Machine" (to the parking lot) and the alternate line, "Dad Jokes."
More updates to come!
Wondering how the @greatamericanrailtrail (GART) will cross the Cowboy State? The Great American Rail-Trail is an ambitious project to create a 3,700-mile multi-use trail stretching from Washington, D.C. to Washington State. Wyoming is a critical piece of this national puzzle, and Wyoming Pathways is partnering with the GART team to find the most feasible and community-supported connections across our state.
To make sure this trail reflects local needs, we are hosting community visioning meetings known as charrettes sometime this Spring in Lusk, Douglas, Greybull, and Lovell. We can't wait to hear from these communities. We will update you as we get closer to these events!
Want more information on this project? Check out their website: /site/greatamericanrailtrail/content/wyoming/
"Who's game for a BIG adventure in western Wyoming this September? Bikepackers, backpackers, horsepackers - you're all invited. Chime in if you're interested, fill out the "I'm interested!" form (https://forms.gle/KySTSjBAevTAVtvJ6), and please help spread the word.
We'll gather in Kemmerer and then strike north through the Wyoming Range all the way to the Tetons, hopefully with some group camping along the way, a resupply drop at McDougal Gap, and shuttle support to make logistics as simple as possible. And no, this isn't a race of any sort, and it'll be free. I've spent a lot of time on these trails over the past 5 years. There's momentum on a major trails project out here, and to help that momentum grow, I want more folks to see some of the trails nestled in these mountains. These trails are very demanding - I can't stress that enough. They fade in and out in places, completely vanish at times, rarely utilize switchbacks, and if you're a mountain biker, you'll be pushing your bike frequently. But for lovers of backcountry trails through beautiful places that rarely see tires, boots, or hooves, this area is magical. These photos offer a glimpse of that.
The route links together a 2-track out of Kemmerer, the rugged and faint Wyoming Range Trail to Hoback Junction, and then a more well-traveled trail through the Snake River Range. Hikers can continue north on the famous Teton Crest Trail, mountain bikers will wrap up in Victor, ID, and horse riders likely will hit the end of their ride a little farther south to avoid a short section on the highway. Let me know if you're interested. I'll get a list going and keep folks in the loop. Timing will likely be late September, and I'll set some firmer dates after surveying what would work best for potential participants, but envision ~6 days on bike and maybe twice that on foot." @kurt.refsnider
