AFTER / ALL was invited to create a lighting installation for this years
@bigsound in the heart of Fortitude Valley and this was the final piece - GENESIS.
Genesis is a work designed to celebrate and capture the elemental force and power of Fortitude Valley’s impact on the Australian music scene. For decades, the Valley has been the cradle of life for countless musicians and artists, a sanctuary to explore, evolve and nurture their artistic visions. As the Sun combusts with primal energy and radiates out, so too does Brisbane’s music scene, stretching and reaching out across the country and the world.
This dynamic and powerful impact is explored through Genesis, with light, colour and movement exploding out in all directions. Sometimes erratic, sometimes messy but always far-reaching and always beautiful.
The physical structure of Genesis was designed to reflect and pay tribute to the artist Nick Brunner, who was responsible for the interior design for The Press Club, The Empire and Family Nightclub - venues that have played a significant role in Brisbane’s music scene (and hold special significance to Dan and myself).
