This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible women who power the global Travel & Tourism sector. 🌍✈️ Despite facing disproportionate job losses during the pandemic, women continue to be at the heart of the industry’s recovery and growth. Today, Travel & Tourism remains a vital source of opportunity and livelihood for millions of women worldwide. In 2024 alone, the sector directly employed 52 million women, rising to 126 million jobs when including indirect and induced impacts—representing 9.3% of total global female employment. Women make up nearly 40% of the Travel & Tourism workforce, with even higher representation in many regions. In Europe, women account for 47% of the sector’s workforce, while in Central and South America the share reaches 47.7%, exceeding the proportion of women employed across the wider economy in those regions. The hospitality industry is particularly significant, with 49% of jobs held by women in 2024. These roles span every corner of the sector—from hospitality and aviation to tour operations, destination management, and entrepreneurship. While progress continues, the data also highlights that barriers remain in lower-income economies, where women’s participation in Travel & Tourism is still significantly lower. Addressing these gaps will be key to unlocking the sector’s full potential. By supporting women’s employment, Travel & Tourism contributes directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Gender Equality (Goal 5), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), and Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10). Today we celebrate the women shaping the future of travel—welcoming the world, strengthening communities, and driving inclusive growth across the globe. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2026 #WomenInTourism #TravelAndTourism

🌍 On International Tourist Guide Day, we celebrate the professionals who bring destinations to life. Tourist guides are cultural connectors, translating local heritage, history, and traditions for travellers from every corner of the globe. Beyond storytelling, guides play a vital role in sustainable tourism, supporting local economies, safeguarding cultural landmarks, and creating immersive experiences that make destinations truly memorable. In today’s globally connected tourism landscape, their work strengthens cross-cultural understanding, promotes responsible travel, and builds destination resilience. Celebrating them reminds us that people-driven tourism is just as vital as infrastructure or promotion, and that every meaningful visitor experience begins with these ambassadors of culture. As the voice of the private and public sectors in global tourism, the @World Travel & Tourism Council (@wtandtc ) recognizes that talent is the backbone of our industry. Investing in talent acquisition, professional development, and long-term retention is essential to boosting tourism growth, improving service excellence, and ensuring the sector’s continued resilience. Supporting and elevating professionals like tourist guides is not only about recognition: it is about strengthening the future of global travel. @wftga_official_ #InternationalTouristGuideDay #GlobalTourism #CulturalAmbassadors #SustainableTourism #TourismResilience #WTTC
