This year, we are launching a new Host Family Program at Winter Sports School, the goal of which is to provide a point of connection, support, and encouragement for incoming new families as they transition into our admittedly different academic program.
Please visit the link in our bio to sign up to be a host parent!
ATTENTION FAMILIES:
Are you trying to better understand your teen? Want to help them learn, thrive, and stay motivated? Recognizing your teen’s unique mode of learning can help you better support them throughout high school and into college.
Join @bigfuture.official for a live virtual event with the authors behind the research:
BigFuture® Live—The Disengaged Teen: Expert Strategies Every Parent Should Know
Date: Thursday, April 23
Time: 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. PT
Register at /communities-events/for-parents
Every teen engages with learning differently, and understanding how your teen learns can make a big difference.
In this live session, Rebecca Winthrop and Jenny Anderson, co-authors of The Disengaged Teen, share original research on four modes of learning that teens use to navigate the academic and social demands of high school. They’re both parents who’ll share how to tailor listening and communication to your teen’s unique needs.
Walk away with more understanding of your teen and practical ways to nurture their motivation, confidence, and curiosity for high school and life.
If you’ve been wondering how to better understand and support your teen where they are right now, this is a great place to start.
You’ll also have the opportunity to get your questions answered live by the authors who’ll speak both to their research and own experiences as parents. If you can’t attend live, register anyway to receive the recording and resources in your inbox after the event.
Thank you to our amazing community members who showed up and represented the Winter Sports School at the YSA Olympic and Paralympic Parade!
We are so proud of our Olympian alumni and future Olympians!

Brutus
March 18, 2009 - March 22, 2026
They say teachers aren’t supposed to pick favorites, but who could blame me? Even though he often slept through class, no one could play the teacher’s pet better than Brutus. He always cheered on his classmates, was happy to provide support during tests, and always offered to take an extra snack or leftover lunch off your hands.
Thank you all for loving him because he sure loved you.
Huge congratulations to WSS alumna Ashley for being named a finalist in the Westminster University Civility Essay Contest!
Ashley’s essay was selected as one of the top 20 submissions out of more than 500 essays from students attending 67 schools across Utah; an incredible achievement that reflects both her powerful writing and thoughtful perspective.
In recognition of the impact of her work, Westminster University President Dr. Beth Dobkin has also awarded Ashley a $1,000 Civility Scholarship!
We are so proud to see Ashley’s voice and ideas recognized.

Different classes. Same roots.
Can you name all of these WSS alumni?
This photo was shared with us from an east coast carnival with our alumni representing Boston College, Colby, Dartmouth, St. Lawrence, and Williams!
We love seeing our alumni competing and connecting, and we’d love to share what YOU’ve been up to with the WSS community as well. Keep sending your updates!
