“It’s a difficult task to come up with a new take on characters as iconic and well-known as any of Shakespeare’s, but Luna and her cast have done it... The point is that Shakespeare is for everyone, including you.” -Shannon G, @batcitystagereviews 📸 @lensofathenaphotography Banner edit: @tony_p_henderson

“Bringing Shakespeare to fickle contemporary audiences is not an easy task but Stephanie has wonderful vision and makes it an enjoyable experience every time. Her support of including young people in the productions is life-changing for the kids that participate.” -Parent of three workshop students / youth cast members 📸 @lensofathenaphotography Banner edit: @tony_p_henderson

Sending up the Bard signal! Our park show is less than two (!!!) weeks away, and we’re in need of some volunteers as well as pieces to make 1830s Texas come to life! Many hands make light work, as they say, so we’re looking for those hands to help us set up and break down in Pease Park. There will be plenty to do, from hanging the curtain, to filling coolers, to unloading the truck, to laying out the stage, and more. Link in bio! Additionally, we’re looking for some things to help make the setting of this show come to life. Below is a little snapshot of the style of objects we’re looking for - specifically, Spanish quilts, flags, and a flag pole. If you have any of these items (or anything you think might fit the vibe!) and would be willing to lend them to us for the weekend, we would be super grateful! Send us a dm and let us know, and we can come pick up whenever is convenient for you.

Our annual ShaxTank feedback form is live! If you're not on our mailing list, hit us up at [email protected] to get you on that, and we'll send over the feedback form as well for you to weigh in on our 2027 park show as well as potential shows for future seasons! Thanks so much to everyone who pitched and who showed up to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with us!

this is what a play looks like if u even care I've been working on the audio edit for Coriolano, cleaning up lines, overlapping the Roman citizen crowd lines, editing out pauses for Rachel to post Brokeback Mountain memes, and adding in folks who couldn't be at the live read through. It might just be me bc I love audio, but there's something so cool about looking at a play laid out like this. It really gives you a sense of how the space is shared. Want to see what this all sounds like? Go to the link in our bio to make your free reservation for May 24!

#throwback to a year ago, our first official rehearsal with @drewson75 to prep fight videos for Henry VI.i! The actors only rehearse together once, but there is so much that happens behind the scenes to make that one rehearsal run smoothly! Andrew is back for Coriolano in May, and we can’t wait to see what he is cooking up for this one! #shakespeare #atxtheatre #austin #atx #theatre #fight #stagecombat

ONE MONTH FROM TODAY we'll be performing an original adaptation of Shakespeare's Coriolanus. Celebrating Texas's rich past and present diversity, we are setting this Shakespeare play in the 1830s to showcase how ancient Roman stories resonate with our own local history. Demian Chavez Galvan's multilingual script adaptation highlights the tensions between Mexican and Texian cultures while also weaving in France's influence on the historical landscape. Our cast, directed by Andrew Mendoza, features 21 Texas artists, many of whom are bilingual, to bring these nuanced characters to life. The show is free to attend and all ages are welcome, noting that there will be simulated violence on stage. Pease Park - on the Great Lawn near the restrooms - May 24, 7pm Runtime: 90 min (no intermission) ASL Interpretation, Open Captions, and Audio Description will all be available. Reserve your free spot at the link in our bio! Bring a lawn chair or blanket and any picnic accessories you'd like (no glassware please!) image: A spray painted background that goes from red to yellow, with the Mexican flag's eagle and snake in the white negative space. The text reads "Coriolano" in brown stenciled spray paint. Underneath: "A Texican Tragedy. May 24, Pease Park, 7pm, Free". The Walking Shadow Logo is on the bottom as well as the logos for Austin Arts Culture Music and Entertainment and the Bennett Raccah Charitable fund. #shakespeare #coriolanus #spanish #bilingual #french #free #austinfree #freeevent #shakespeareinthepark @pippa_oso / @a.men.21 / @artsparktx / @cityofaustinarts / @peasepark

If there's one person we KNOW FOR SURE was born on April 23, it's our favorite costume designer and my favorite mom, Katie Crugnola. Since we get to celebrate Billy Shakes in person tonight at @batchatx , we're gonna take this space to celebrate Katie with a look back at a few of the costumes she's made for us just this year from halfway across the country. She swooped in to literally save CAC - (designing and executing costumes in 2 days!!!!!), created the most colorful park show to date (with 30+ actors and only one day to fit/alter), and said "bet" to building her own version of John Singer Sargent's Lady Macbeth portrait among other unique pieces for Short Shax. If you've worn something that Katie has made, take a second to show her some birthday love in the comments ❤️ 🎂 @ktcrug 📸 @lensofathenaphotography Venues: @dadalab.io , @peasepark , @sekrittheater
