I’ve been experimenting with surface techniques and working on a series of small ceramic paintings. I’m really happy with the results so far.

FINAL WEEK
Gagné Contemporary is pleased to present "The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side", a show of diptychs in paint, photography, assemblage, ceramics and video.
The show runs to this Saturday, May 2.
Seen here is "Fragments of An Unsettled System" by Bill Greaves. Stoneware with multiple glazes.
From Bill – "This diptych presents two fragments of a larger, imagined system. They share traces of a structure that has been interrupted: stacked, joined and layered, and ultimately resists resolving into a stable whole.
"I developed the surfaces with layers of slip and glaze that are applied, partially removed and reintroduced, so that the final image becomes a record of accretion. Crackle and variation emerge through firing, registering tension, heat, and material response beyond direct control."
There are 12 artists in the show – Alison Brannen, Lori Coulter, Nick Fox-Gieg, Bill Greaves, Horst Herget, Cate McGuire, Erik Mohr, Ella Morton, Stan Olthuis, Howard Podeswa, Jobelle Quijano, and Meagan Williams.
We're here Wednesday to Saturday, 12-6pm. Do come by.

OPENING APRIL 10
Gagné Contemporary is pleased to present "The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side", a show of diptychs in paint, photography, assemblage, ceramics and video.
Please join us for the Opening on Friday, April 10 from 6-8pm.
The show features artists Alison Brannen, Lori Coulter, Nick Fox-Gieg, Bill Greaves, Horst Herget, Cate McGuire, Erik Mohr, Ella Morton, Stan Olthuis, Howard Podeswa, Jobelle Quijano, and Meagan Williams.
In Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poem The Lady of Shalott, the shattering of a mirror marks the exact moment a solitary, reflected existence collides with the chaos of the real world. To look directly is to break the frame.
"The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side" takes this rupture as a starting point, exploring the diptych as an artistic practice defined by the break in our field of vision.

Here is the egg I decorated for the 2026 Art Hunt at 401 Richmond Street West (the wonderful building where my studio is located) in Toronto.
It’s a free and public event on Thursday March 19 at 5:00…search the building for clues and get an egg decorated by one 401 Richmond’s artists or makers.

These two came out the kiln recently. I really took my time with them — very happy with the result!
I’m off to Collect Art Fair in London today. Have been wanting to go for years!

🎥 Meet the artists of Fired Up! | Bill Greaves
In this mini interview, ceramic artist Bill Greaves discusses Wall Composition 5.1 and his interest in expanding ceramics into wall-based work.
Greaves reflects on scale, process, and the excitement of exploring a new format within his practice, one that opens up different spatial and visual possibilities and "feels like the beginning of a series..." The piece marks a natural extension of his ongoing exploration of texture, surface, and material, translated into a horizontal, architectural composition.
Bill Greaves’ work is currently on view in Fired Up! at Oeno Gallery through January 11. To explore available works, visit oenogallery.com or experience the exhibition in person. For inquiries, call 613-393-2216 or email [email protected].
