We are delighted to announce that our very own Anjeli Chapman Wolfs first anthology âSpiteâ is OUT NOW!
And even out as a staff pick! Dave says:
A debut collection of short stories, punchy in their delivery yet thought provoking and captivating; warped, bizarre yet completely relatable.
Brief glimpses into worlds that somehow stick to you and remain with you leaving you on the cliff edge of your own imagination. Those worlds conjured with tight prose, not a word, not sentence is wasted.
Youâll read them in no time but will be glad that you did.
An absorbing introduction to an emerging talent, hold on to your copy and youâll be able to say you were there when it all began!
A very very big congrats from everyone here. Anjeli, weâre so very proud of you!
Now available in shop and on our website.

Thank you, Jennifer Porter. "I was slated for an excellent three day weekend (our company takes a holiday for President's Day) but a severe migraine took most of it, forcing me to slow way down and toward the end I was well enough and able to take in a chapbook I'd been waiting for.
I'd read some pieces from Mary Mandeville in the past and am always so impressed at her prose. Ursula Le Guin has said of this art of excellent usage of language:
"Language used as an end in itself, to sing a poem or tell a story, goes right, goes towards the truth. A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers and poets spend their lives learning that skill and art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers stronger, brighter, deeper."
I think of writers like Mandeville when I read that excerpt of LeGuin's. It is a read that immediately sends the tendrils of electricity of the vulnerable and painful places of our lives. The ones we try to spin, dance and buzz around to lessen their most powerful effects on us. But what you get when you read that impactful ache of constant truth in your bones is companionship.
Lately I've felt as though I was walking on a seashore (Grace's favorite place) slightly cold and conflicted with all the ways life has dealt a most solid blow, not just directly in the home, but everywhere, career, politics, community, and the most intimate in questioning of my own soul. I'd felt mostly alone in this as we often do when wrestling with these issues. But Mary's words assured me I was not alone. Her poetry and impressive experimentation of language that so clearly defined what loss is, what the confusing , painful and ultimately freeing processes are of working the clay through that loss, was a reminder that I was anything but alone.
There is a type of redemption that comes and being reminded as you are in the storms, a service so eloquently provided by an artist who shares her journey so boldly.
Not only can ...
Jennifer Porter continued: Not only can art illustrate our most harrowing journeys, but be one of catalyst of service to a fellow human, and ultimately the very thing that helps redeem. A most beautiful read indeed."
