Earlier this year, I had the delightful opportunity to introduce skateboarding at the Goa Open Arts Festival in Panjim.
What a ride, and an absolute blast it was! Even though it was a bit of a puzzle to pack an entirely new skateable space into a compact area, and still keep the design enough for at least 20 skateboarders to use (in addition to keeping it beginner friendly too!)
I took the chance to design some creative and unusual ramps and a layout catered to everyone from our regular rippers at
@skatelifegoa to curious festival goers for whom this would be the first time trying skateboarding.
This was our first time bringing skateboarding to an arts festival and it was a raging success—the skate park was buzzing every day, afternoon to night! and everyone in the crowd, the skaters and the festival team loved the new ramps, the artwork (by
@dattaraj_naik11 and his team) and the overall environment. We organised a skateboarding showcase led by
@kima_gr , fun contests for all the skaters, daily skate workshops by
@skateshala and even a music jam at this 'pop up skatepark' to conclude the festival.
The sight of skateboarders, roller skaters, surf skaters, kids on scooters, babies in prams, and even a wheelchair sharing the park was simply beautiful. I had a lot of fun working with the amazing
@goaopenarts team and meeting new faces that have now become regulars at the local park.
I was always confident this would turn out great - but the whole experience exceeded my expectations.
Once again, Thank you Skateboardng 🙂
