ABOUT THE PLAY - STONE|SERPENT|SOUL
We all know Medusa as a fearsome monster, her terrible gaze strong enough to turn any living being into stone.
But who was she before this? Child of immortals? Priestess of Athena? Gorgon?
Was she too beautiful? For she caught the eye of Poseidon, a god who pursued her against her will. Yet it was she who was punished for his transgression and transformed by the goddess she served.
So what did she become?
This play asks, what happens to the soul when the body has been disfigured against its will? Can beauty still exist, even in the darkest of places? And are the real monsters those with a gruesome appearance, or those with power who punish the undeserving?
Medusa. Monster? Victim? Or something in-between?

Caili Crow is a theatremaker, dramaturg, and teaching artist with a background in musical theatre, devised performance, and storytelling for intergenerational audiences. Recent credits include Cypress/Chestnut & Dramaturg for MotherTree(conceived and directed by Bonnie Cullum, text by Sarah Saltwick, The Vortex Theatre) and Dramaturg for A Doctor’s Visit (by Anikka Lekven, directed by Molly Fonseca, Broad Theatre). She is also the Program Lead and Writers Group Co-Leader for Seniors in Play—a San Antonio-based theatrical creative aging program—and is committed to nurturing the human impulse for storytelling in all her work.

Delia Cañamar will play Nikos. She recently made her debut as Doña Crista and in the reading of Puro Pastarellas with the Teatro Audaz Nuestras Historias. Delia became involved in theater through the Seniors in Play Program founded by Tony Plana where she has performed in various showcases and with the Seniors in Play Repertory Company production of “an Afternoon in San Antonio”. She wishes to express her appreciation of the fine instructors and directors of the Seniors in Play program who have afforded her a new
opportunity for creativity.

Jack is excited to participate in his second theatrical production in San Antonio. Right after moving to the city back in January from Virginia, he got the chance to help sound design, as well as understudy for La Bete’s production of Lend Me a Tenor. For this production, he would like to thank Cindy, Manny, C.M. Bratton, and Lilith for giving him the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful production, going back to the roots of theatrical storytelling. Previous credits include “One Way Road,” which he wrote, directed, and performed in at the Firehouse Theatre in Richmond Virginia, RENT, and the Importance of Being Earnest, for which he assistant directed. @jtgray804

Genevieve Ellis has recently taken the stage as Nancy in Angel Street with Boerne Community Theatre and as Audrey in Leading Ladies at Second Act Productions. She graduated from Trinity University last spring, where she played such roles as Astrid in the world premiere of In the Clearing by Octavio Solis, Guildenstern in Hamlet, and Christina in Fefu and her Friends.
