2 years back I was introduced to Amira Gill’s voice and on my first hearing I was pretty sure I wanted to compose a song for her. The honesty and purity her voice carried moved me. When I started working on Minus One(S2) I realised this could be a perfect opportunity for me to explore this collaboration.
Amira has been in the truest word an excellent collaborator. Flowing with ideas and ever so helpful.
This song also features a sarangi player I’m quite fond of. Momin Khan from the Jaipur gharana.
Maestro Stephan Maass provided the perfect backbeat with his inimitable style and approach.
Gaurav Chintamani and his studio Quarter Note in New Delhi had a huge role in recording the vocals for this song. Perfect vibes!

This was during our recording session for the song “Mera Ishq Vi Tu” for the series Minus One at Honda Studio Mumbai with my anchor and favourite bassist Nathan Thomas. He has been an ardent supporter of my music and many other musicians and bands that he has been a part of over the years. Feels great to know a musician who who plays the right notes that you are imagining in your head.
The person in the middle is Shakeel Ahmad Ansari, chief sound engineer at Honda Studio and my right hand man for all my music mixes.

A song about eternal love.
I got in touch with Amira Gill few months back to work on a song together for the Lionsgate series Minus One. I convinced Shubham Yogi, director and writer for the series, to experiment by taking a traditional poem or hymn from Punjab and make it a ballad.
We chose “Mera Ishq Vi Tu” a poem written by Khwaja Ghulam Farid, a 19th century Sufi poet from Punjab.
Special mention to my friends Gurpal Singh and Radhika Sood for their valuable suggestions.
This poem has also been sung by Abida Parveen and Jagjit Singh in different versions.

“Naye Armaan - Reprise”
I had reached out to Nikhil D’Souza last year in the month of December. I had already finished working on the rest of the songs for Minus One and it was now time to do a reprise version of the pop song Naye Armaan written and sung by Mansa but now through the lenses of the female protagonist Ria played onscreen by Aisha Ahmed.
This slowed down version of Naye Armaan made the story mellower and gentler. The song was recorded live with Nikhil delivering the warmth and affection the story needed.
I hope you enjoy the song as much as we had creating it.
