Little birdies in the sun making it snow Paper Birch seeds! A magnificent design by nature ... Over winter the Birch seeds are dispersed by wind and animal activity, and then become layered in the snow. As the snow melts through the spring, the seeds will land onto moist ground where they can readily germinate!

Well this is cool .... Some Alberta sourced White Bark Pine (Pinus albicaulis) - this is one of Alberta's endangered five needle pines. A very nice lot of seed. They were surprisingly easy to get into. Can see how they are a favorite of the birds and squirrels. Big seeds! #seedcollectors #seedsaver #nativeplantsofalberta #albertanativeplants #whitebark #pine #pinusalbicaulis #nativetreenursery

There are two lesser known raspberry species to Alberta - Rubus arcticus (Dwarf Raspberry) and Rubus pubescens(Trailing Raspberry). Both make fantastic ground cover options for shadier areas. Trailing raspberry tend to spread quicker but is easy to manage. They produce fruit and sweet little blooms in the spring and early summer. #raspberry #albertaraspberry #fruit #berries #nativeplantsofalberta #nativeplantsinurbanareas

Saskatoon berries are starting to get some colour. This rainy weather is great for berries, some heat now would be ideal to get these delicious berries ripened up for snacking! #fruitingplants #nativefruit #saskatoonberries #nativeplantsofalberta #nativeplantsinurbanareas #nativeplantnursery
