Introducing MSA secretary Hidaya Hassan
(Spring 2019-Spring 2020)
As a first-generation college student, Hidaya Hassan and her family are thrilled that not only is she earning her associate degree this spring without having paid any tuition thanks to the Star Scholarship, but she has also been named Wright Collegeās valedictorian.
Hidaya was born in Palestine, the second youngest of eight children, but her family moved to the United States when she was four. Always a bright student who loved to learn, Hidaya focused on earning her high school diploma from Taft High School in three years and moving on to Wright College, where she could earn the prerequisite classes she needed to apply to pharmacy school. Since her sophomore year in high school, she knew that she wanted to be a pharmacist, because she loved science, could work with patients, and could help people.
She loved her time at Wright College, saying that she appreciated the small class sizes where she could ask questions and the supportive community there. And she was busy ā a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Muslim Student Association, American Chemical Society, Pre-Pharmacy Association, MD/PA Association, Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and the Student Government Association ā all while working part time as a pharmacy technician, for which she got her license in 2018.
Hidayaās next step has been part of her plan since she decided on her career path ā she will transfer to the University of Illinois at Chicagoās College of Pharmacy in the fall of 2020 where she will pursue her dream.
MSA President Mohammed al Juboory Fall 2018 :
After being Vice President for a semester Mohammad was ready to take on the role of presidency after MSA President munther had transferred. He had big shoes to fill. In the beginning of the semester Mohammad and heās Eboard (which was missing a secretary) struggled to carry on the MSA after its founder had left. Yet Mohammad never lost sight of what the MSA is about. He stayed persistent and was a very strong leader. After months of hard work the MSA reached new heights a over 20 members coming to meetings and much more had joined. Mohammad was not only able to maintain the MSA but he brought the MSA to the next level. He was a leader that always helped students and motivated them. He only served as president for one semester yet his impact is for ever.
He is now pursuing a degree in Aerospace engineering at IIT.
MSA President Ahmed Baker :
I came to Wright college fall 2017. It was my first semester attending college and back in the United States after a long time. I entered college with no real goals or ambitions. After I noticed the MSA doing events on campus. I set out to join and become part of the community.I joined as a member and slowly went up the ranks and on the way making great friends. I started having a clear vision of what I wanted to be, and with the help of members in the MSA I had a clearer vision for my future. Fast forward Spring 2020 I have been president for over a year. During my time at Wright I met so many amazing Muslims and non Muslims on campus. The life lessons I have learned will always be a part of me. I never thought Iād be leading an Association like the MSA. From the members to the Eboard everyone in the MSA played a vital role in contributing to the clubs success. I hope the MSA continues to be a life changing experience as it was for me. One tip i would say to any future members reading this is, even if things donāt go as planned or your not getting enough members, being consistent and persevering despite any circumstances you will see the club grow. The club is not about events, the club was meant to bring people together. Alhamdulliah I will be transferring to Illinois institute of technology for fall 2020 to pursue a degree in architecture.
This is Ahmed Baker signing off for the last time.
Inshallah the MSA at Wright will continue to strive for future generations
It was the year 2016 Fall Monday after Physics class Munther (a commoner at that time) approached me and told me about recreating the MSA club. He had told me about the history about the old one and now he's starting it up again. Of course I agreed to help him as soon as he threat- as soon as he asked me. That's where my friendship with him also bloomed. MSA was a small club at that time and eventually we became active and that was the first Rose of the Prophet that semester! Which I wasn't part of (because of class) but it was still a big achievement! It was conspicuous how much he and everyone had enjoyed the event š! Throughout the semester the MSA evolved and virtually we had new events and foo- excitement every semester! I am happy that I was part of the MSA and proud of the leaders that kept leading MSA to success. Alhamdulillah!
Meet Fayez Ihmud
MSA Treasurer (spring 2017)
He was new at the college and just got back to the United states from Palestine. He didnāt know any people and didnāt like how there wasnāt really an Islamic clubs at Wright like the other clubs at different university and colleges. Fayez and the others also didnāt like the struggle of not having a place to pray in. So when Fayez was offered to be part of the MSA Fayez took the opportunity to be a part of change for the Muslim community at Wilbur Wright college and to teach non Muslims about our religion and fix misinterpretations about muslims. In doing so Fayez assisted the president with reaching out to other organizations and helped the Muslims on campus have a place to pray. Fayez went from not knowing too many people on campus too having a special place in the Muslim community at Wright. #wilburwrightmsa
