I most certainly did nottt forget to post here again (life remains in its usual state of chaos, smh). So, here are a few images I never shared: I am always improving and crafting pieces of my impressions..slowly, steadily, ya know…proper 18th-century grindset. One day I shall arrive where I’m content with everything (delusion? perhaps, but we PERSIST)
Included as well: up close shots of my 1st Regiment of Foot Guards circa 1780’s impression (STILL PROUD OF THE ROUNDHAT), my new Long Land Brown Bess I assembled from a kit, along with some wee drawings/ concepts, works-in-progress, and a lovely exhibition at @historiclewes that I had the honor of working on. We’re gonna ignore how photos are MONTHS apart (oops)
I do have fun news however: I have accepted a new post as a historic interpreter, alongside some archaeological cataloguing, so there shall be no shortage of crafting, refining, and descending further into historically accurate madness in the coming months. Anddd, of course, I have also been toiling behind the scenes on certain endeavors I cannot yet reveal (supah top secret)(apart from that exhibition), though I may say they are firmly rooted in the XVIIIth century, and much of it involves illustration
I do hope everyone is faring well during these times, and I eagerly await the upcoming season ♡⚔️

I am exceedingly late to this using this audio...but history will recall that I showed up eventually
How long did it take me to finally post this? We don’t speak of it. Best not to keep ledgers on such matters. Winter is forever a chaotic season here with work..and on top of such chaos and waning light, I’ve been stubbornly perfecting my impressions and crafting away like a lil XVIII century ghoul rather than putting pen to paper
I hold the utmost admiration (and perhaps a touch of envy) for those who post with such frequency…truly built of stronger stock with these cold months. Mad respect ngl
I hope this season is treating you all kindly ♥︎

At last, I join the fray of #artvsartist2025
This past year has been of art in many guises: illustration, animation, and various acts of sewing and tailoring (perilous to one’s fingers…RIP). I have always admired sewists, never suspecting that I myself would take the plunge of learning to take up a bit of patterning, and re-configuring other garments that once believed themselves finished
Much of my illustration labor was reserved for clients (and thus remains unseen here), alas, I am proud of the few pieces I did manage to finish up. And since I’m already oversharing/ yapping (as always), I thought it only proper to include a small, older, 3D mental-canvas animation I whipped up. I never shared it, as it’s not entirely where is want it to be/ accurate, but, hey…It’s as fine a time as any to post it imo
My sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone here: for the steadfast support, the good cheer, and camaraderie and friendships. Here’s to a new year of making questionable creative choices, and being a lil chaos goblin behind the scenes
Huzzah! 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Ever since Yorktown I’ve enjoyed the rare pleasure of defeat, exile, and rebels inquiring after my wellbeing

I donned a different jacket during my time at the fort this holiday, and I assure you, it was not espionage
The new kit is based on the First Regiment of Foot Guards in the early years of the AWI. I tailored an old coat to fit more proper, added a horsehair neck stock, brand new cartridge box, tended to a few tricorn repairs, and crafted a hat cord, though the wind seemed determined to spirit it away in half the photographs. Vexing…smh. I’m convinced it sought to betray my disguise
It was a lovely gathering with fine folk, as ever. I somehow managed to sleight of hand some gingerbread, and at one point, I was inexplicably entrusted with the reins of a carriage? I still don’t entirely know how that happened. It was grand meeting so many new faces. I must admit- however - It always amuses me when people request a photograph. I have no notion how to pose when I am not in full gremlin mode, so I just stand there like a damn plank. Also…I have resolved that any unfortunate candid of me shall be met with a sentence of dramatic public proclamations in the town square (sorry not sorry. YE MUST PAY)
In any case, I hope all who celebrate are enjoying a pleasant holiday and that you too find an opportunity to pilfer some gingerbread or partake in some eighteenth century style cocoa. Tell me, mes amis, what merriments do you await this season? Any customs or festive mischiefs afoot? I am all ears, I’d love to hear ♥︎
It has certainly been a chaotic season here, with developing lore-accurate maladies one after another (in true commitment to the bit), and work, but I’m elated for the events and projects ahead!

Another art dump, mes amis; one painting, one animated reference sheet, several sketches of fine folks & company, and, of course, a wee ridiculous meme. I daresay it would not be my work without a touch of nonsense atp
I was going to ask if any among you might discern the two regiments (and the battle), until I remembered the reference sheet spoils a third of the mystery. Andd my humblest apologies to my ever-faithful Von Bose mutuals..oop…☠︎
And tell me: if you could step into any century, which would you choose, and what historic trade or skill would you fancy mastering? Or any you have tried to learn in this reality? I’m curious
I’d be quite fascinated to take up ink-making or goldwork (embroidery). Perhaps I’ll try my hand at one of them in the near future 👹

Despite grievous battle wounds (lacking an appendix), I did successfully infiltrate the British fort come Tavern Night, without so much as a hitch or musket leveled my way! By some miracle, I was offered bear stew instead of a spot in the stockade, which I count as a most glorious victory
Granted, I did squander every last pence on cider and games of chance, yet ‘twas a merry evening nonetheless…and I escaped imprisonment! HUZZAH!
Featuring, at the end, a grand stew concoction (culinary calamity) (don’t follow his directions, or thou shalt suffer the same fate)
And yes…more art shall follow! I’ve had an absolute delight of a time making new acquaintances and dabbling in new crafts beyond illustration 🤺

Some scattered pieces today: one on the Bataille des Cèdres, another showing a Von Bose grenadier’s get-up, a few quick portraits of delightful mutuals, and yes, a wee Nathanael Greene meme
I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole with the Battle of the Cedars and ended up sketching gear from two of the units who met there. I focused on the Eighth Regiment of Foot and Bedel’s Regiment, since they made for a rather good contrast. Dug through vintage uniform book illustrations and bits of reference, and thought it would be rather fun to piece together what gear or kit a soldier might actually have had on him/ around, based around those types of old illustrations. It gave me flashbacks to those “eye spy” books I loved as a kid.….just now hunting for every last canteen, bayonet, or buckle
Then of course I wandered off to the Hessians and drew a Von Bose grenadier. I mean, come on, that kit is sharp. The helm alone has a certain swagger. Stylish lads, those grenadiers, whether one roots for them or not. Much like my excellent friends and mutuals, who keep inspiring me to draw more portraits. And continue I shall 🤺
So tell me, do any of you have a favorite historical dress or bit of fashion that you find particularly charming? Always curious what catches other folks’ eye. I think it may be evident what periods im drawn to
Anddd..ahem..you heard it here: it’s okay to steal horses
(For legal reasons this is wholeheartedly just a real silly goofy joke)

While I’m busied away with various projects, I thought I might share a glimpse of what I’ve been up to beyond the studio. I’d like to slip in a few snippets of other crafts and diversions between my actual illustration work; I hypothesize it’ll keep me (somewhat) sane
And yes, my recent disappearance was entirely due to the small matter of accidentally tumbling back through time…and finding it rather pleasant, so I stayed. Huzzah!
Lately I’ve taken to carrying a little sketchbook, jotting down whatever catches my eye/ I feel could be useful for studies. My question is: do any of you keep one too, and find it useful for your work/ motivation? Do y’all have any other hobbies that keep you inspired? I’d absolutely love to hear :>

The original sketch and notion for my kit, along with some lil unfinished camp sketches ♘
I’ve been experimenting with some more novel sketch styles, attempting a more painterly manner (though my affections remain hopelessly entangled with linework), whilst sprinkling a touch more texture into the composition. Alas…I ended up nearly fully rendering the sketches…again. oops. my bad 🥀😔

(y’all..don’t judge, this was one of my first sewing projects 💔)
Cute summer day idea: Accidentally tumble back into an 18th century hyperfixation, dive into research on minutemen and civilian wear, then meticulously choose historically accurate linen and wool, frankenstein and draft patterns inspired by such, and hand-sew an entire kit (perhaps this project has inspired me to throw together a few) (stay tuned) (spoiler: I like my militia kit more..which is why the tricorn is the why it is)
btw if anyone sews breeches on the daily/ with ease, I’m absolutely TERRIFIED of you

Some quick lil’ armour studies; I wished to play a touch more with textures in these, giving them a somewhat more worn and rough aspect. I also made trial of the animated brushes from Amberdraws upon the first piece, since I have been striving to weave in a few more animated touches and added interest to my recent works! :>
If I have the courage..next post may be a taddd different; I’ve gotten very much into historical research, patterning, and sewing. and I’d really love to share it with all of y’all! 🖤🫡
