The @rachelbrownetheatre is available to rent!
Not every space changes the way you create. But some do. This space, The Rachel Browne Theatre at Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, is one of those spaces.
This intimate, beautifully equipped venue offers a rare combination: a sprung Marley floor, side lighting (shins and mids), and a large, pillar-free studio that gives artists the freedom to move without limitation. Whether you’re rehearsing, performing, or building something new, the space meets you where you are and elevates it.
The theatre regularly hosts performances, workshops, lectures, fundraisers, and community events, supported by a full production booth, lighting and sound systems, and comfortable seats with clear sightlines that keep audiences close and connected.
Located in Winnipeg’s vibrant theatre district, the venue is easy to find, newly updated with exterior signage on three sides of the McKim Building, and accessible by major transit routes with ample parking nearby, including free street parking evenings and weekends.
Recent renovations have thoughtfully transformed the experience for both artists and audiences. From a new gender-neutral accessible washroom and enhanced dressing rooms to an expanded lobby and upgraded technical infrastructure, every detail has been considered. New lighting, speakers, and technical booth improvements ensure the space performs as beautifully as the artists within it.
We’re currently welcoming both one-time renters and those looking for a consistent creative home for classes, rehearsals, workshops, or ongoing programming.
If you, or someone you know, is looking for a space that supports serious work and meaningful experiences, this is it.
Consider making the Rachel Browne Theatre your space this season!
WCD is ending its 61st season by planting something beautiful for what comes next.
Inside the studio last week, eight local dancers and two guest artists came together for the first rehearsal process of The Whole Bloomin’ Thing, a new work by Canadian icon Margie Gillis.
It’s the beginning of something that will fully bloom on stage this November.
This project carries real momentum. When WCD presented OLD in February 2025, the response was unlike anything we’ve seen. Workshops sold out well in advance, every performance filled the house, standing ovations followed night after night, and the artist talk became the largest in our history. It wasn’t just a success. It was a signal.
There is a clear and growing desire in our community to engage more deeply with Margie’s work; to witness it, to learn from it, to be challenged by it.
With the support of a Community Grant from The Winnipeg Foundation, WCD is building on that energy.
The Whole Bloomin’ Thing will headline our 62nd season subscription series, carrying this creative exchange forward in a meaningful, expanded way.
What’s happening in the studio right now is more than rehearsal. It’s the early shaping of a work that speaks to connection, curiosity, and the kind of artistry that stays with you long after the curtain falls.
We can’t wait to share it with you!
Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers is hiring an Operations & Administration Lead to help support the day-to-day operations of the company and the Rachel Browne Theatre.
If you’re organized, collaborative, adaptable, and passionate about the arts, this could be a beautiful fit.

After months in the studio, building, refining, and pushing, Accumulation steps onto the stage for the first time tonight!
For Artistic Director @jolenebailie_ , this is one of her strongest works to date. A piece that didn’t come from a single idea, but from something that kept building… until it had to be made.
Seven dancers.One continuous force.
And a work that reflects something we all recognize, what it feels like when everything starts to stack up, and something shifts.
SEE IT TONIGHT!
