【Jazz Future: Tamjai Quartet – Tribute to Barry Harris】
Tam Jai
Local jazz guitarist Tam Jai presents his graduation recital in a jazz quartet setting, joined by pianist Anson, bassist Chun, and drummer Wai. The group will reinterpret jazz standards arranged by bebop pianist and educator Barry Harris, offering their own perspective on these timeless works.
Currently studying music at university, Tam Jai has been active in Hong Kong’s jazz scene, performing at various venues and building strong live experience. His work centers on re-arranging standards, blending diverse jazz elements while expressing a personal voice within traditional repertoire.
Barry Harris (1929–2021) was both a bebop piano master and an influential educator. His ideas on harmonic movement, voice leading, and improvisational language have shaped generations of musicians. His arrangements preserve original melodies while enriching them with sophisticated harmonic color and rhythmic thought.
For listeners who enjoy hearing classics reimagined—or are curious about the dialogue between bebop vocabulary and modern jazz—this concert offers a chance to witness the artistic growth of a new generation.
