It’s World Puffin Day! A day to celebrate these iconic seabirds and to raise awareness of the importance of protecting them and the coastal habitats they call home. Puffin populations are declining due to environmental changes, food shortages, and habitat loss. The RSPB has been safeguarding puffin homes and protecting them from invasive predators. Campaigning for the closure of industrial sandeel fisheries was successful, as the closure came into effect in 2024, preventing overfishing and enabling puffins to find enough food.
Last week, Tom visited Skomer Island, one of the UK’s only puffin colonies. He was keen to take the rare opportunity to record these charismatic birds as they begin the breeding season.

The now-discontinued @sennheiser MKH 60 shotgun microphone is a favourite 'workhorse' mic at Wounded Buffalo and the wider industry. The go-to for Foley due to its exceptionally low noise floor and natural sound profile, it is also used for ADR and field recording.
The modern equivalent is the MKH 8060, but the MKH 60 continues to hold its own as the very best microphone for our work.
