Birmingham New Street Station by AZPML ( former Foreign Office Architects)
I still remember seeing my colleague toggling 3d rhino model of this around 2007. After 15 years, managed to visit Birmingham.
Well, there have been quite a few issues on this station such as competition process, procurement, budget/cost, interior finish and etc..and the architect didn’t go back after the completion..
However, here it stands and welcomes passengers.
I enjoyed floating around these mirror polished surfaces, trying not to get into too much snagging 🫣.
This visit made me miss the good old days with my wonderful colleagues on Curtain Road very much.
Hope you are all well 😊

Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Norwich by Foster & Partners
Completed in 1978, this architecture still seems to stand a way ahead of many other contemporary / hi-tech architecture.

Angel of the North, Gateshead, UK
Designed by Sir.Antony Gormley
with Ove Arup & partners as Technical designers
I find Gormley’s sculptures more inspiring for their settings. This one was no exception!
And the weather was just about perfect 👍🏻 when we got there.
( But the wings seemed a little heavy..hm well very heavy…🙃)

Kingsgate footbridge in Durham, England
The last structure designed by Ove Arup
“Completed in 1963, Arup considered this bridge his finest work. He planned every detail, including the unusual way it was constructed. The need for scaffolding on the river was eliminated by casting the bridge in two halves, one for each bank. The halves were then swivelled out from the banks to meet.”

We were so thrilled to visit this elegant foot bridge on our road trip in April 2022. Design, construction method, materiality, surroundings and even the gutters are beautiful…

Both of us enjoying the moment at
Gloucester Cathedral’s Cloister.
It is believed to have the earliest fan vaulting in England. Just beautiful...
