Monday, June 5th - screening + talk with Metahaven @metahaven (online), join us at 5pm, room 4.12 (bâtiment A, 4th floor). An invitation by Giulia Bini @giulia__bini in the framework of her seminar "Hydra". Capture (2022), interweaves archival material from CERN (the European Laboratory for Particle Physics) with footage from the slopes of La Palma’s active volcanic range, Cumbre Vieja, and lichen filmed in the vicinity of Trondheim to explore the relationship between art, anthropology and the philosophy of science. Commensurability between art and science cannot be presupposed, especially when looking at quantum physics, which operates as a description of nature at the most fundamental level. No matter how smart it is, art draws on sensory impressions to convey something, even if what is hinted at is deeply abstract. Art provides ‘images’ of one form or another that viewers are primed to understand on a formal level as a means of communication. In quantum physics, however, the “intuitive" understanding of the world inherited from classical physics is not getting us very far. The film explores fundamental questions in philosophy, science, and everyday life, including: What is reality? How do we define consciousness? What constitutes knowledge? Methodically, Capture uses the interweaving of archival footage, fictionalized interventions with an unreliable narrator-protagonist, and motives such as the returning presence of cherries as a way to co-narrate these parallel questions and themes. Image : still from the film Capture, 2022 and installation view at “What Is It Like To Be A Bat?,” Kunsthalle Mainz, 2023, curated by Yasmin Afschar. Photo Norbert Miguletz.

FR Le jeudi 11 mai à 18h30, lecture et rencontre avec Olivier Marboeuf autour de son recueil poétique ”Les matières de la nuit”. @HEAD -Genève, bât A, route des Franchises 2, 4e étage (espace Work.Master) --- The bachelor [inter]action is pleased to extend Olivier Marboeuf's invitation by the Work.Master, in the framework of the seminar “Anti-/Post-/Dé-/colonial : une conversation en cours”, to propose a public reading of the poem-manifesto "Bleu Pays", published in "Les matières de la nuit", poetic shadow of his essay "Suites décoloniales". The reading by the students will be followed by a conversation with Olivier Marboeuf, where it might be about mouths and noise, de-speaking voices, rage and infrabasses, and about a poetic writing that seeks a path in the decays to build its scene of enunciation: how and where to start talking? Olivier Marboeuf is a storyteller, curator and film producer from Guadeloupe. He currently shares his work between speculative writings, drawing and film production within Spectre Productions. He recently published the essay “Suites Décoloniales: s’enfuir de la plantation” and the poetry book “Les Matières de la Nuit”, both published by éditions de Commun.
