@canfilmfest for your curation and bringing it to Toronto audiences. Mayumi, where do I begin my friend? From the moment I screened your short in which your feature was drawn all those years ago, I was an immediate fan and couldn’t STOP telling you what a brilliant story you had! I cried like a baby then and even harder now. You’ve executed a brilliant portrayal of family, love and loss across time, generations, continents, in black, white, colour and dual languages! You provoked emotions in us with great care - we laughed, we cheered, we sighed and cried - have I mentioned how we all cried? There was not one unsnotty nose in my row which spanned generations, cultures and genders because you told a powerful story about the memory of love and how it never ends. What’s more? We could all see ourselves in your story deeply rooted in belonging! Sheesh!
