NEW HOME BUILD | BIGFORK, MT | 2,500 SQFT
•
A single family home located just outside of Bigfork, MT near a meandering river. While the home is not located in a flood plain, the site is adjacent to one. Given this site condition, one of the client’s requests was to have the main volume of the house sit off the ground. This move allowed for the design to take better advantage of surrounding views and creates a tree house type feel to the home. The main volume of the home is clad in a matte black standing seam metal and consists of two intersecting gables that serve to frame views of the nearby mountains and the adjacent forest. The interior of this volume is clad in wood from a local mill and gives the home a warm and cozy feeling. The lower base volume of the home is clad in plaster to give it a solid and grounded feel. This portion of the home houses the more utilitarian functions of the project. The raising up of the main volume of the home creates a unique space underneath the home where the owners can be sheltered from the rain and snow, but still feel like they are outside experiencing the site.

NORTHWOODS HOUSE
New home build | whitefish, mt | 3,000 sqft
A family home located in Whitefish, MT. The design is influenced by Scandinavian long house architecture and seeks to blend into the hill side through a natural material palette, a series of screens, and wing walls. The home features a small, private entry that opens up into a large living/dining/kitchen space with expansive views of the surrounding forest. Custom walnut cabinetry throughout the home accentuate the clean lines of the space with integrated pulls. The kitchen also features two tier island with Dolomite countertops, and three appliance garages to keep the countertops clear of clutter. #northwoodshousemt

A family lake home located in Whitefish, MT. The design centers around a central indoor-outdoor main gathering space and is flanked on either side by two cedar clad living volumes with shou sugi ban recesses. Each front recess holds a small elevated deck for catching views of the neighboring lake. The back recess houses a wooden-slat screen-wall that runs along an exterior stair. An angled entry clad in white brick addresses the angle of the street and provides a place to pause before entering into the home. The white brick material continues to make its way into the home on the centrally-located, double-sided fireplace.

A room with a place for all the things, Especially books. That was the prompt for this room transformation in N Portland. Reading nooks, plant ledges, library, coat closet, display shelves for art and trinkets, shoe storage, Mail Drop were all covered in this now cozy and bright multi use space.

A three level home on a wooded and sloped site. The design steps down with the sloping terrain and creates a dramatic covered entry space leading up to the main level. The entry opens up to a double height kitchen/living/dining space with views out to the adjacent forest. Natural stone countertops half waterfall on the island and wrapping the backsplash with oak accents and dark green cabinets.

Lake View Cabin
Rollins, MT
A small single story cabin in the woods. The design focuses on a central great room space adjacent to a covered patio with views facing out towards Flathead Lake. Bedrooms on either end of the gable volume offer privacy and forest views. The exterior wood siding looks to blend in with the surrounding forest.
The Portland team was out in Montana last week checking in on our #bigforkbend project which is in the final finishes phase. 🙌🏻

BIGFORK BEND
-UNDER CONSTRUCTION-
A home built on a steep site overlooking Bigfork Bay, the Swan River, and the Flathead Lake beyond. The design features rooflines that cascade down the steep hillside. These wedge shaped volumes are clad in wood and serve to direct snow to either side of the home in strategic locations. Grounding it into the site, the base of the home is clad in stone. While relatively closed at the top of the site, the home opens up as it moves down the hill to a series of covered decks and terraces that make their way down to the water. The interior of the home features warm wood accents and a central open stair that serves to brighten up the space with natural light.
