New here? Let’s do a quick introduction. Wordsmiths Guild is a collective of South African writers, poets, artists and creatives who have come together to share our stories, our craft and our skills. We started with one mission: to write. To give our voices space. To create and to connect. But along the way, we found something more — community. Belonging. A place where creativity is nurtured, and bigger dreams begin. Here, we believe in the magic that happens when we support each other. When we collaborate instead of compete. When we rise together. Building a community that will be a stepping stone for future generations. These are our words. This is our world - and we’re just getting started 🌟 (Words contributed by @namreensonday )

How does this week's prompt show up in your story? Were you sucker punched? Did a thing someone said leave you sucker punched? Did you sucker punch someone? Endless possibilities bit only you can write the story

If there were three, what would it mean? Why not two or one? What is the significance of there maybe being three? Write the story and let me know.

Ooh this is a lekker one! What secrets would you reveal of there were absolutely no consequences? The move thing about being a writer is that you can insert all kinds of secrets into a character and no one will ever know if it's really true or not. What are you willing to share?

This year I want to be a little more intentional. I also want to focus on doing less and not burn out. Less is more after all. I am aiming for consistency not perfection.

This week's prompt is an image. Write about the story that comes to mind. What does your eye focus on when you look at the picture? Is it the person, the sky, the entire image? What about it stands out to you? Does it unlock a memory? It made me think about getting ice cream when we used to go to the beach as a family. There was always the guy on a bike riding along the beach selling suckas and bompies.

I'm trying to get back to writing for the weekly prompt from @wordsmithsct . This practise has helped me work on implementing writing skills that I've been learning since getting my book deal. It's much easier to implement lessons in a short story than in a whole manuscript. Right now I'm working at improving my pacing. I also have a habit of repeating myself in a story, and most times I'm able to catch while editing, but sometimes I miss it. So that's another thing I'm trying to work on. @fatima_bheekoo did a short story writing workshop with us a few weeks ago and she shared a story where the character left out information for the reader. I wanted to try and use that technique in a story. The Waiting Room is the result of all the above tasks I've assigned myself for the prompt, Once Upon a Time. It's available to read on my website rushdiyahwrites.co.za and on the AO3 page for Wordsmiths Guild.

This week's prompt is live! Just coming out of a writing slump, I'm trying to be consistent and write for the prompts to build momentum. Right now I have no ideas, but this weather is perfect for some free writing with a lekker bowl of soup 😊 Let's see what we can come up with✨

The meet up for May is cancelled because we're going to be the Suidoostefees and Comic Con that weekend. There are a few free writer sessions that you'll need to register for at Suidoosteefees and so many other activities like plays, cooking demos to name a few. The programme is available on their website. If you have tickets for Comic Con, check out their website for the line up for some writer panels, there are a few that may be of interest. The next dates for meet ups will be announced as soon as they have been finalised with the library.
