"Chinatown" Collection (2025) by @wooozystudio
I wanted this collection to be a trip down memory lane for a lot of Asian-Americans. As an adopted Chinese person, all of my "Chinese" experiences have been manufactured to me by my White American parents. While different, and slightly fractured, my Asian experiences are still valid. This is something I constantly remind myself. Through this jewelry collection entitled "Chinatown", I wish to celebrate these different but valid experiences as an adopted Chinese American.
The fish necklace represents the fish markets that bring curiosity and nostalgia to me, but are repulsive to my non-Asian friends. The purple necklace with winding beads is full of trinket I found in Chinatown and represents my childhood excursions that helped build my Asian identity. Finally, the necklace with the snacks represents how food has played a big part in my reintegration into Asian culture.
Special Thank you to my mentor @samanthafieldsstudio for pushing me to create more personal artwork. Thank you to all of ART 429 for the incredible crits and feedback that helped develop this collection.
