Thirty years ago this month, Tucker Hall and I set out on a snowboard trip that would forever change our lives and the lives of many others. Our plan was to hang with Mark Gabrial and Nathan Fletcher in Tahoe and tag along while they filmed with Jon Freeman for his new snowboard movie. The forecast looked good and we were ready to get out of town. What we found that week was a new world that totally opened our eyes. The snow/skate scene in Tahoe was happening! We immediately fell in love with snowboarding, riding powder and the lifestyle that came with it. As the week progressed, Tucker and I started talking about how this new energy could impact the surf industry. We knew change was in the air and this would be a great time to start a new company mixing all three board sports together. It was in the parking lot of Kirkwood after a day of riding that we made the decision to start something fresh and different. Two weeks later, I quit my job and Volcom was born. It’s been an awesome adventure of riding, friendship, brand building, business and fun. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the Stone and to those who continue to push it forward. Much love, wooly
What crazy times right now. The Stone needs some help! If you’re thinking about getting some new gear, check out volcom.com. The deals are pretty good and every sale made means a lot to the Company. Thank you for all the support over the years. Stay strong and healthy! Much love...wooly
A big congrats to Russell Hoover on his new book SURF. I’m stoked to have a few photos in the Fiji section. Thank you for including me Russ, a job well done!
The last four days have been pure shred madness. Thank you to the white rabbit, Volcom and the Baldface crew. It’s been an awesome trip! Camera and edit by Dave Seoane, music by Jeff Pensiero.
Its been a big week for the little man. He dropped The Shoulder multiple times. It’s a legit black diamond run and has opened the door to the next level for him. Good job little buddy, I’m proud of you! Love Dad.
A big thank you to Jeff Galbraith and Colin Wiseman for the opportunity to have a profile piece in the latest The Snowboarder’s Journal magazine
# 17.4. It was a fun project and I’m stoked on how it turned out.
After a two day drive from California to Montana, we found ourselves in the middle of some epic, cold smoke conditions. Its been a good couple of days. Camera work by Dave Seoane.
Yesterday I drove by the crash site and today I went to the memorial by Kobe and Giannas house. So sad. I still can’t believe it’s real. I feel terrible for all the families who lost their loved ones. Kobe was an inspiration to me and to Volcom. I often spoke about Kobe and the Lakers at our company meetings. How we needed to work as a team like they did. Thank you Kobe for all the years with the Lakers, all the championships, all the insane buzzer beater moments, your time with Shaq and your dedication to being the best. May you and your daughter and the rest of the people who died in the helicopter crash Rest In Peace. We love you and will miss you.
