Did you read in @theageaustralia recently that ‘birding’ is now on trend? Young people are swapping iPhones for binoculars, and appreciating the benefits of leaving social media behind as they identify birds instead of fake news, and give their brains a screen breather.
‘Dusking’ is also on the rise - according to a @bbc article last week, dusking requires nothing more than finding a quiet place to sit and the patience to watch the light fade. Welcoming dusk is a meaningful ritual in many cultures. In Japan, the yüyake song observes twilight. The Balinese tradition of matahari terbenam marks a moment of sunset contemplation, while in Sweden, the concept of kvällsro reflects the peaceful calm of evening.

Today has been a perfect, windless, blue-sky day by the water. Our billabong, and the wetlands down at Yarra Glen IGA, were pretty as a picture, shimmering in the sunlight. Both were designed and brought to life by Bill, now looking like they've always been there. Constantly growing and changing these waterscapes are living entities, home now to a host of birds, animals and insects. As I paused to drink it all in, three black cockatoos effortlessly soared overhead. What a treat. ☀️❤️🙏

We always feel we win gold when writers fall in love with with The Burrow the instant they step through the door. There's a moment of surprise I wish I could bottle. A silence that speaks volumes when they turn and see the billabong, then slowly focus on the space they stand in.... a smile of delight and an intake of breath ...and ohhhhh is all I hear.
Our beautiful writer, Laura McCluskey, has made every second of her stay count, and it all flew too fast.
Her debut novel, The Wolf Tree, widely acclaimed by many including famed writer Dervla McTiernan, has been gifted to The Burrow. Novel #2 is set to launch in February, and #3 has been birthing during Laura's time here. I can't wait to be reading them all!
Laura also holds a place in @sistersincrimeau and is well known in the Writers Festivals circuit. It's been a joy and a privilege to spend a little time with her these past couple of days, and there's a hug and a welcome awaiting her next time she steps through the door.

I was lucky enough to be at the @literary_listings lunch surrounded by enormous talent at every turn - writers, publishers, editors, readers, sellers - and we hung on every word and insight from three terrific authors, effortlessly led by Michael Williams. Emily was there from @avenuebookstore , she’s stayed at Wombat Bend, as has writer @kmildenhall and Kate’s looking forward to returning for another writing stint in February. I’ve got my copy of her latest novel The Hiding Place next to my bed ready to start this evening. 📚🙌#woohoo
