The night before we opened, Andrew, the coffee roaster at Jenna’s Promise, came in to teach the team how to work with the beans, how to grind & weigh & properly perfectly pour over, & I thought of course she would be here: at the 11th hour, in the midst of a snow storm, elevating everything, always.
An icon. Drag-racing queen of the county. The greatest girl’s girl. The ultimate heartbreaker. Our ringleader, our sweetheart, our beloved queen bee. The best of us.
On February 15th 2019, the opioid epidemic stole her from us. Hearts shattered in a thousand shards, we painted her casket. We were her pall bearers. I wrote her eulogy & read it in a long, bright yellow coat because that was Jenna: beautiful, beaming, so blindingly bright our home room teacher said, you almost had shield your eyes. & in her name, her parents started the ground-breaking, all encompassing recovery organization Jenna’s Promise.
Her legacy is one of radiance & dedication & love. It’s as infectious as her smile, her mischievous laugh, the depth with which she looked at everyone she ever met. Her legacy has saved so many lives. Changed laws. Brought so many people together. It’s inspired our best work. And it is infused into every meticulously measured cup of coffee we pour you, every sip supporting her purpose.
The patron saint of recovery. The muse of our best menus. Seven years an angel, forever our little devil.
